Had a game with Dave, he used my Tyranid list instead of his own and used my models instead of his own Hive Fleet which has been christened Hive Fleet Undercoat lol. I was trying out a slightly modified Guard list; Leman Russes are proxy as Manticores and the Hellhound as a Vendetta, btw, Daemon models as Tervigons

Deployment

Dave won the roll off and deployed first by putting all his Tervigons on the board, I deployed nothing.

* Tactical Notes

As this is my list I should know the priority targets on it, those being Hive Guard which can open up my tanks, Tervigons which can spawn more troops if I kill those they should take some Termagants with them and also Genestealers which can really ruin my day.

Turn 1

Dave spawns some Termagants burning out the HQ Tervigon in the process, everything else walks on from the board edge, not shooting as nothing to shoot at.

My turn I roll my stuff on forming a Chimera wall protecting the Manticores behind. I turbo boost the Vendettas in order to get a cover next turn shooting and to keep them away from the board edge, which didn't really work out.

I fire the Manticores direct but remember about night fighting so it auto misses.

* Tactical Notes

Ok dumbass idea number 1 was using the Manticores to fire, I forgot it was night fighting to one Manticore auto missed meaning I missed a shot. I also thought perhaps turbo boosting the Vendettas was wasted, but thinking about it night fighting rules they probably wouldn't have shot anything anyway.

Next turn I'll lay waste to the hordes with Manticores as I will move several Chimeras over to the objective by the shrine ruin and move a Chimera to a objective my side - the other two objectives are Daves side btw.

Turn 2

Dave calls for reserves with both Genestealer units coming in and outflanking, one comes on the left flank towards the Vendettas while the other unit comes on the right flank towards a Chimera.

Everything else starts moving forward with Tervigons spawning, one burns out though.

Shooting I don't think a lot happens as Dave is still out of range if I remember right.

Assault 'Stealers multi charge two Vendettas, one is crew shaken the other one is right as rain. Chimera gets wrecked on the right flank and the squad inside fails the pinning test, doh!

My turn I move a Chimera up to the shrine objective while moving about two others to blast the Genestealers on the left right flank. I move the Vendettas about so the Genestealers need 4+ to at least hit.

Shooting I blast the Genestealers with flamer, plasma and lasgun and kill them all but they take a lot of fire power. I drop Manticores on the Hive Guard by the Tyrant killing some Gants and putting a wound on a Guard. I drop Manticore by the Guard near the HQ Tervigon, manage to score a wound on one and kill Gants and wound the Tervigon I blast that Tervigon with a lascannon from the Vendetta too, it's got 3 wounds left now.

* Tactical Notes

Ok not a awesome second turn which I've had to put a lot of fire power into Genestealers to get rid of them. I also haven't managed to kill off a single Hive Guard unit yet.

Turn 3

Daves moves his bugs towards me with a unit of Termagants going through terrain with a Tervigon close behind to get a Vendetta, the last Tervigon also burns out.

Shooting Hive Guard manage to immobilise and crew stun a Chimera while a Carnifex wrecks one with devourers, squad inside passes pinning test but proceed to be shot up by waiting Termagants - the unit fails morale and falls back but it blocked by my own unit which means they would have to double back, so they're destroyed by their own squad - wtf! Vendetta gets weapon destroyed by another Hive Guard unit.

Assault Genestealers charge the Vendetta closest to my lines but fail to do any damage. Termagants charge the weapon destroyed Vendetta and immobilse it.

My turn the Vendetta which was shaken moves 6" from the board edge and eyes up a Carnifex while the other Vendetta moves away from the Genestealers as a Manticore and Chimera roll in.

Shooting Vendetta puts some wounds on the Carnifex, Manticore uses hull flamer on the Genestealers killing them all, if not plasma Vets would have nailed them as the flamer on the Chimera was destroyed in a previous turn. Manticores rain down I cannot remember exactly what they do.

* Tactical Notes

Well the bugs are getting closer and I don't seem to be doing a fat lot. Hive Guard still remain and Tervigons aren't going down, though Dave has kept two in cover and using the rest of cover very well. At least I have two objectives making it a draw, though Daves Termagants are 3" within one so I need to clear them off!

Turn 4

Bugs are on the move again, nothing major though.

Shooting the Carnifex trades shot with the Vendetta but does no damage. Veterans holding the shrine objective get killed by something, probably Termagant fire and devourer fire from a Carnifex.

In assault Termagants charge the Vendetta and take out another weapon and stop it from shooting.

My turn I go balls to the wall and move a CCS through the shrine ruin ready to blast a Carnifex with plasma as another melta squad moves onto the objective. I move a plasma squad blown out their tank onto the objective I hold already while the Chimera with the troops inside moves out of terrain ready to blast some bug.

Shooting the Vendetta kills the Carnifex while the HQ Tervigon takes some more wounds. Termagants get fried by plasma and heavy flamer in various parts of the board as the Carnifex gets blasted by plasma, though it has one wound left, damn it!

* Tactical Notes

Well it's going down the drain here. The CCS in terrain are probably going to get mullered by Hive Tyrant and Carnifex, I hope their Chimera holds out! I still haven't got those Termagants off the shrine objective, one still lives! I could rain down Manticores on Termagants on one objective out in the open Daves side, but a troop Tervigon is there so if the Gants die it will live. I could turbo boost a Vendetta towards another objective Daves side and maybe contest.

Turn 5

Daves knows my Vendetta trick and rings his Termagants around a objective spacing them out so I cannot get within 3".

Shooting he blasts the CCS Chimera with Hive Guard which do some damge, he finishes it off with the Hive Tyrant as the other Carnifex blasts the Veterans on the shrine objective. Other unit of Hive Guard try to take out my turbo boosted Vendetta but no luck. The other CCS gets blasted by Hive Guard, their tank is popped leaving a single plasma gunner and the Commander to be assaulted.

In assault Tyrant charges and kills CCS, Carnifex charges Veterans they fail morale and run off and Carnifex runs after them which means they cannot regroup. A Tervigon assaults a Chimera, it explodes leaving half my squad left while the Termagants finally wreck the immobilised Vendetta. Termagants charge my Commander, he stays in combat with a single wound left...

My turn I turbo boost the Vendetta over to the objective Dave holds but I'm not within 3". That's really about it, there is a turn 6 but it's just Dave moving stuff.

Tyranids win claiming three objectives!

Summary

Enjoyable game, even if against my own list and using my own tactics which I advised Dave. Dave did well, at first he used tactics I suggested i.e Termagants for cover for Hive Guard and shooting at certain targets and assaulting after blowing tanks up etc but he started to run with the ball himself. Unfortunately he burnt out quickly, one Tervigon per turn, bad luck on that one but rest he did well.

I cannot say too much for myself though. I failed to kill even a single Hive Guard unit and a Tervigon, though two Tervigons hid in terrain all game with Termagants close by. I had some rubbish luck with plasma and Manticores were meh - I thought 3 would kick ass seabass. I think the Genestealers took too much effort killing the first turn they came in robbing 3-4 units of fire power in order to dispose of them.

I'll be doing some thoughts on the extra Vendetta and Manticores as the Hellhound I normally use would have been handy, though the Leman Russes would have done the same damage as Manticores more or less with the rolls I was getting lol.
