So, my brother's girlfriend is fully capable of making miracles with Clay. Well, my brother and her walked in on me putting my Predator together, and she looked at it and said she could make one of those for a fraction of the cost, and having witnessed some thing she has made, I don't doubt it.

I am debating on taking up her offer, but am unsure. With a proper paintjob, do you guys think I could get into tourneys, what with the fact that about 80% has to be GW parts?

Usually the rule is that a model has to be:

1) 50% GW parts

or

2) 100% scratch built

You'll want to check with the TOs, though.

Sounds embarassing.

I don't think this idea is really worth pursuing.

It was kind of.

But yeah, I kind of want a cheaper way of doing things, but I also want it to be 100% plastic and legal for in case I do decide to play in tourneys eventually.

I would say go for it. As long as it looks like a pred, and is all your own build, why not? But definetly checking with tournament organizers first would be best.

A clay Predator sounds cool. Post pics when it's been all fired up in the kiln and painted!

Agree with purplefood.
If it cannot be used in tourneys you still have a cool Predator model to display or use in friendlies.

We want pics when she builds it!

Ask her to make it into a piggy bank as well, that way you can play with it and save with it at the same time

A Predator piggy bank sounds ace!

Heh heh, sorry about forgetting about this

I don't think Iwould ask her to make a Predator, I think I would much rather have her make a Daemon Prince, as those are a bit more customizable/look at what Sersi is doing with his/her giant daemon models.

I think it'd be cool to do just as an artistic exercise and proof of concept. Definitely post pics in the gallery if she does it.

Whether it'd be legal in tournaments is an open question. Unless you're actually playing in a GW store there usually isn't a restriction on using GW models anymore. Custom-sculpted daemons and things are often very much respected and appreciated.

Why not pay her to make some model upgrades instead? You play chaos, right? If she is indeed good enough make a Predator from scratch, she should be able to turn an existing bland predator into a glorious chaos engine of destruction.

Honestly, I was thinking about having her make the Daemon Prince how one of my video game/comic characters were going to be. I have plenty of sketches lying around for him, though I have having trouble deciding on what weapons I would want him to have. If I do his "Iconic" look of his Axe and Chain Whip.... Naturally, people would think he is a Bloodthirster But the Shotgun and Sheild don't really have that much basis in 40k

Ask her to make it. You will have no problem using it in tournaments.
