Im trying to make combi meltas but have no experience and no meltaguns. Would using sprue chunks and epoxy be the best way to go? I know itll take hours to do it this way :(

the cheapest way would be to buy the GW 5x metal meltagun blister pack, chop off the melta heads, and glue them onto the bolt gun. Minimal GS work required to make it look good.

Use the round ends of the tabs that come on the bases and cut/file them till they're a perfect cylinder. Then drill out a barrel hole and carve 4 slits on each side (in 3 rows. The top and bottom having 1 each, with the middle row having 2 slits).

Then take a bolter, cut off the muzzle, move it down the bolter and re-glue it, then glue the melta-barrel you just made above the Bolter's Muzzle. Voila, cheap Combi-Meltas.

How effective is using the base tabs for the meltagun barrels? I would love to use this for my Guard, but I don't want to spend the time unless the end efforts are worth it

Just my 2 cents

Take Catachan flamers, cut the tip in half, and cut off the fuel tank. Use a bit of guitar string to join the fuel stub to the end.

I've carved a few sprue-tab Melta Barrels. However it's time consuming, somewhat dangerous (it rolls alot in my hand) and very tedious.
