Just some background I'm working on for my army. I'm never sure if what I write is gak or not, so tell me what you think!

Boss Grimderp Skullfether was the leader of a Bad Moons tribe, part of the army of Warlord Nazork which was winding its way through the Pentus Sector in early M42. His career as a pirate lord began on Praxos III after his boyz set upon and destroyed the Ultramarines Fifth Company*. When Nazork showed up and, like the Deathskull git he was, demanded an overwhelming share of the loot, Boss Skullfether answered with his Power Klaw. He took to the stars in the Ultramarines Strike Cruiser “Valorous Force”, hastily renamed "Loona’s Suprise" and settled into the life of the Freebooter. They prey on anyone and anything that crosses their path, and hire out their services to those Ork Waaaghs rich enough to afford them and mad enough to employ them. The mere whisper of he or his ship is enough to bring instant silence in even the seediest of spacefarer bars throughout the entire Segmentum Obscurus.

* They were going to be Imperial Fists ('cause they's yellur, stands to reason, dunnit?), but the information for the Ultramarines is much easier to get at. 5th Company because the old Second Edition Ultramarines codex has the company standards for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th in full color, but the 3rd and 4th's are too Tyranidish. Going to use it as Skullfether's cape.

Was thinking of having them form a Deathwatch team with the Ordo Xenos (there have been all-Ultras DW teams in the past, although they were focused on Tyranids). That would give me another color of Marines stuff to loot.

E: Maybe they should be Imperial Fists after all, the Lexicanium has a really nice IF Chapter Standard...

Imperial Fists would make sense because they are good defenders and Orks like attacking things that are defended.

How about:

Never ones to take defeat lightly, the (Ultramarines/Imperial Fists) have committed three full squads to serve as Deathwatch killteams with the Ordo Xenos under the leadership of the famous Ork hunter Lord Inquisitor Alexi Alexandrovich to avenge their fallen battle brothers and reclaim their lost standard.

The Marines and the Inquisitor have not been heard from in three years, although parts from the Lord Inquisitor’s personal Rhino have been recently spotted on Boss Skullfether’s personal Battlewagon “Da Golden Throne uff Terror”.

Maybe have his retinue sporting bits of Ultramarine and Imperial Fist armour as trophies or parts of their own armour.

His career as a Freebooter began amid the shattered hive-walls of Ghospora on Black Reach after his boyz set upon and butchered the entirety of the Ultramarine’s Second Company (only the cowardly Captain Sicarus escaped, playing dead among the shattered corpses of him men until he snuck off aboard the last Imperial Shuttle to leave that doomed world, eventually being discovered in a grain container when the stench of his befouled armor became obvious). When Zanzag showed up to the battlefield and, git that he was, demanded an overwhelming share of the loot, Skullfether answered with his Power Klaw and took to the stars in the Ultramarines Strike Cruiser “Valin’s Revenge”, hastily renamed "Loota’s Suprize". Settling into the life of the Freebooter, they prey on anyone that crosses their path and hire their services to those Ork Waaaghs rich enough to afford them and mad enough to employ them. The mere whisper of the ship’s name is enough to bring shocked silence in even the seediest of spacefarer bars throughout the entire Ultima Segmentum.

The loss of an entire Company’s geneseed along with thirty warriors from the veteran First Company put the long term survival of the Ultramarines, already so ravaged by the claws of successive Tyranid hivefleets, in serious doubt. Repeated readings of the Emperor’s Tarot divine naught but doom for this once-most-proud of Chapters.
