Ok, I'm going to be putting together my first Valk, I will probably just magnetize the weapons, so I can change the options. Except for the Hvy bolters, I going to run these pretty much all the time, not too expensive and can be useful. In my army I have decided I will mainly use my Valk's as close support for my infantry. Now I'm wondering about a few points.
Multi-Laser: Cheap, Good against other guard, bugs, and orkz. Maybe used against rear armor or weak armor, not optimal though.
Lascannon: Not good against hordes, but good against MC's and MEQ. Great against armor.
Hellstrikes: Only one shot, poor BS. Average against armor. Could be used against a MC.
Rocket pods: Add a lot to cost. Great against hordes. Nearly useless against armor. Can be fired after moving as defensive weapons.
I'm thinking of running it with Lascannon, Rocket pods, and Hvy bolters. I already have plenty of BS 4 Lascannons in my infantry and tanks, but might be nice having one with it. Is this a bad idea? I'm mainly wanting to use this to deal with enemy troops. So should I just keep the multi-laser? If I don't move it I can pump out a lot of shots. Or I could even flank around and get 3 str 6 shots against rear or side armor? Is this even worth it?
Thanks.

I run a valk with mutli lazer, rocket pods and heavy bolters, price wise it is not to bad at all and gives me a good anti infantry vehicle, that can drop a squad of vets off. The BS 3 makes the lascannon less dependable. The multi lazer with its 3 shots for me at least is a better buy. Plus you said you have some bs 4 lascannons anyways. The valk can get those side and rear armor shots and I in my experience having more shots is better than one single shot.

If your going to run a Valkyrie instead of a Vendetta stick with the multi laser and get rocket pod upgrade. You can move 12 and fire the multi laser as main weapon and the rocket pods as defensive since they are strength 4 at infantry. Heavy bolters only if you have points since you have to only move 6 to fire them as they are strength 5.
If you want a anti tank vehicle go with a Vendetta with its 3 tl las cannons.

I like to play strictly WYSIWYG.
I glued my Valkyrie's multiple rocket pods and side doors shut.
I hope you understand my point.

We play that way as well, so if I want to change options I will have to magnetize them. I will stick with Multi-laser, MRP's, and Hvy bolters. Seems like the best mix for me. Otherwise I have two CCS's with Lascannons and 2 Vet Squads with them, all use camo/sentries and stick in cover. For Anti-tank I'll also have two vanquishers w/lascannon, and Multi-meltas.
I also give the above squads in cover vox casters to make sure I get the bring it down order to stick.
I'm having to slowly acquire more items than this, I'm thinking 3 Chimera Melta vets as my next addition. From there I'm thinking 2 basilisk or medusa.
For what I see at my LGS this seems like a good setup. I should be able to blast ork trucks and then pie plate the ork mobz. Same basic idea for bugs, except MC's instead of trukks. Against guard I have to deal with several enemy tanks, hence the vanq's and camo'd vets.
I really like the flexibility the valk gives me, I think for the price it is the best thing for me to have against hordes. Next would be the basilisk's.

The Vendetta is amazing for 130 points. Valkyries with rocket pods do also make great delivery vehicles for a SWS w/ demo charges or a flamer-wielding PCS, but if I were to turn to Fast Attack for anti-infantry, I'd give serious consideration to the Helllhound. It can easily stay behind your chimeras while lobbing a S6 AP4 over them pretty much exactly where you want it. When it comes to digging out annoying stealthy troops, accept no substitutes.

I cant bring myself to take a valkyrie as the vendetta is the same point cost and is so much better. Just get some Las guns to throw on the model to make it wysiwyg

If you are dead set on a Valkyrie, go MRP, Heavy Bolters and Multilaser. Very good Anti-infantry there.

The heavy bolters are optional. One big advantage of the pods is that they are defensive weapons, thus allowing you to move 12" while still firing your full payload. If you have 10 spare points at the end of the day, sure, why not? But it's very much a luxury purchase.

well, I have it half completed now. I got the passenger compartment with tail section done. I did the doors open with the two hvy bolter gunners manning the guns. They look pretty decent. I don't really do anything competitive, I just like having a good time and having a cool army.
since I'm playing catachan, I'm going for the whole vietnam look to it. My valks are going to kinda look like huey helicopters.
If I could just quit playing around like it's flying around the room, then I might get it done...
I am tempted to do two vendetta's, just will be really expensive. But might not be too bad. If you outflank with them, do they actually do much? I mean the thing is a foot long, so I'd have to enter the board and only be able to fire one weapon... That close to the enemy would put me in range of every melta, ML, and other weapons. Plus, no real chance to even get any kind of cover saves...
As for cool factor, they do seem pretty cool.
