So I'm pretty new to tyranids, infact Iplayed my first games with my battleforce this weekend (1-1-0 =). Since I only had the battleforce, 3 extra warriors and a couple of extra Termagants, I had to really pour on the upgrades to reach 750 points. I also had to use Ymgral Genestealers instead of normal ones, and I fell in LOVE!! My opponents (new to fightning tyranids), were really psyched out when I told em the stealers could spring out from any piece of terrain. So I wanted to do a list that combines the ymgrals with my other favorite tyranids, Mawlocs/Trygons. Here's what I came up with:

HQ
Hive Tyrant, Hive Commander, Heavy Venom Cannon 220 Points
2 Tyrant Guard 120 Points

Elites
2 Hive Guards 100 Points
6 Ymgarl Genestealers 138 Points
6 Ymgarl Genestealers 138 Points

Troops
Tervigon, toxin sac, adrenal gland, catalyst 195 Points
20 Termagants 100 Points
18 Termagants 90 Points

Fast Attack
3 Spore Mines 30 Points

Heavy Support
Trygon 200 Points
Mawloc 170 Points
1501 Points

The main idea is to screw as much as possible with the opponent. First with the spore mines (which may be a free kill point I know, but still) to screw abit with his deployment, althought I'd like to take more then 3. Second with the threat of the genestealers possibly coming in amongst the enemies long range weapons turn 2. Also coming in turn 2 is the Mawloc, since I'll burrow him turn one. Lastly the Trygon comes in where he's needed (hopefully). All the while the enemy have to deal with a shield of Termagants covering my Hive Tyrant and Tervigon.
So what do you think? One thing I'm consernd about is horde armies, since my only blast weapons are the mawloc and venom cannon. Another is if the borde lack terrain. So, any thoughts on this list?

If tyrygon is to deepstrike, you really need to make him a prime for synapse at least. Possibly AG as well?

Mawloc burrowing idea only works if you get first turn, otherwise it can be shot to pieces before it gets a chance. You need to ensure you play with plenty of terrain so he can hide away turn one.

Spore mines don't really work for me - the opponent can just drive mech straight through them.

To make the list work, I think you really need to go dual tervigon. Trim gaunts down to 10 in each brood, drop one tyrant guard, the spore mines and one ymgarl from each brood. That should allow you to take a second tervigon and push the trygon up to a prime.

Ex nihilo

Ahem. Spore mines do not count as a killpoint, as they are ignored for the purposes of mission objectives. (They can't contest, but are also not a killpoint.)

Drop a tyrant guard and one termagant for 65 points to be spent on:
Old adversary for the tyrant . 25 points, everything rerolls hits. Ymgarls with +1 A for 4A on the charge, with rerolls. Thats brutal.
Make the trygon a prime for 40 points. Heres why: when he deepstrikes, he can't do any assaulting for one whole turn. So no tearing tanks up, and you maybe get stuck in combat. 6 S5 shots against avg rear armor 10 gets you one glance and one pen on that tank. Sure, that will stun it and even give you a 33% chance to destroy it. You can kill it next turn for sure. But for 40 points, you double your chances. 66% chance to destroy a tank you pop up behind. You still have to take a round of being shot at/ maybe assaulted, but at least its much more likely to have one tank down before all this.
Screw dual tervigon, I like your list. Leave the small bug units meaty, how they are.
Spore mines are really funny. Even if they do just put a tank next to them to destroy 30 points of nothing, you've essentially made him put that tank there. In situations where the spores drift backwards towards the table edge, it means he depolys the front armor of the tank facing the spore mines - leaving rear armor exposed to your shooting. And thats not even mentioning the deployment nightmares of spearhead and dawn of war with them. Good buy for 30 cheap points.
Mawlocs are fun. 170 points of scary confusion of target priority. If they shoot at the mawloc, they're not doing a very good job.

Thanks for the input guys, glad you suggested the Trygon Prime, only reason I held back was so I could give more protection to my hive tyrant, but now I can save some money and only buy one tyrant guard.

@ruminator, why do I need a second Tervigon? Is it cause my lone Tervigon will get targeted right away?

@Doomthumbs, thanks for the input, really like when you get advice for your list that doesn't involve changing the whole thing (got that alot on my chaos lists -.- "add deathguards, daemon prince and obliterators"). Do I really need Old adversary? My Genestealers will probably be more than 6" (probably on the other side of the board) away from my Tyrant, althought you never know what board you'll play on....
Didn't know that you ignore the spore mines....now I want to add more xD
