I'm going to Adepticon in just under 2 months, and the Warhammer Fantasy Big Brawl is a 3k event, but no Grand Armies (so, effectively a 2999 pt tournament that you can be 1 pt over on), and no special characters. I'm doing Skaven. None are painted yet.

Here's what I know I want to include:
2 Doomwheels
2 Warp Lightning Cannons
60 Clanrats w/HW&Shield (split into 2 units)
50 Slaves w/Spears & Shields*
6-8 Rat Ogres

But that's only about 1200 pts; adding some weapons teams to the Clanrat units brings me up to 1350 or so, and still 150 pts shy of the minimum Core.

Suggestions? The intent is Skyre-themed, but not exclusively.

*Yes, shields + spears is wasteful. But I'm using IoB rats for slaves, and their shields are molded on. :(

I won't be fitting 2x HPAs into the remaining point allotment - 3k gives a max of 750 for Rare, and I'm 480 in already.

I'd reccomend taking those Rat ogres in one unit of 6 with a master bred rat ogre and 4 handlers. I think it is a very nice unit.

You may not be able to put in to hellpits but you can chuck one in.

I would reccomend the seer but not the bell. makes him too much of a target.
I like to go a seer with a lv2 warlock engineer. it ensures you get every spell from the spells of ruin which I prefer to spells of plauge (except for plauge but who doesn't want that).

If you have the points a big unit of giant rats with Skweel Gnawtooth goes very well.

a big unit or two of plauge monks is great and some units of plauge censor bearers can work well hammer units.

If you don't go for any jezzails then the stormbanner is a must (maybe a must even if you do) and the Battle Standard Bearer is an absolute must.

Plauge priest on furnace is also a good option and goes well with the monk unit.

Thanks. A couple follow-up questions:

But are the Giant Rats worth it without Skweel? No special characters allowed.

Is it worth including a small unit of Stormvermin, just to pick up a second magic banner slot?

Too much pestilens down that path, I think. Neat-looking model, though.

I'd go for a unit of maybe 30 night runners with a warpgrinder.

Quite an effective unit, especially useful in a tournie I imagine, and quite quick to paint (clanrats sprayed black basically).

How are you planning to paint 3000pts in under 2 months???

A unit of 42 rats with 5 handlers weighs in at a paltry 143 points if memory serves (I don't have my book) with me. They're faster than slaves, attack in an extra rank even on the charge and are cheap fodder. They're definitely worth it, but unfortunately don't count for minimum core points/units.

Hmmm. The models to paint/points ratio might not weigh in favor of the giant rats, then.

Quickly. A couple nice thing about skaven models: they're supposed to look "dirty," which lends them to some speed-painting techniques that you wouldn't use on, say, Empire; and most of the models are sculpted in such a way that you can get them playable, while not damaging your ability to come back later and make them better.

I thought squeel was more of a unit upgrade rather than a special character. may be worth checking with the tourney organiser though. I always take units of giant rats though. I actually like taking a couple of small units (6 rats & 2 handlers) in 2*3 formation. good for running up and going for warmachines or as flankers or just fodder.

i wouldn't include a small unit of stormvermin just for a banner.
