Over the past year or so I've been slowing getting back into Warhammer Fantasy after a years-long hiatus from anything pertaining to the hobby, be it modelling, painting, or playing. Additionally I've inherited a great deal of older, OOP minis from my older brothers and their friends who initially got me into the hobby as a wee lad and taught me the basics of painting, scenery-building, etc. Anywho, I've got a great deal of work to go and I decided that keeping a painting (b)log would be the best thing to keep me on my toes and working on my army.

After completing the second of the army's two giants (slightly modded giants of Albion), I decided to devote more time and effort into the building of my boyz. The colors are a bit distorted, probably because of my phone's camera, but the finished giant is below:

In the coming weeks and months I hope to fully flesh out the back story of Sasnak and Noggin, but for now I'll just post the duo's inspiration:

  • Sasnak leads the goblin front of the horde and was a rather pivotal NPC in long-running game of D&D I ran for my usual group. His trickery, despite his appearance only over the course of a few sessions, fooled the PCs completely and when all was said and done left two of them just rotting bodies, cursed by Sasnak's master and unable to be revived by any means.

  • Once upon a time Noggin was the Black Orc warlord of my O&G horde when I was younger and playing back in 4th-6th edition Warhammer. A downright nasty fellow, even for a orc. Noggin wouldn't hesitate to slaughter his own mother if it meant victory in the coming battles. Noggin also transformed into a D&D character and was an anti-paladin of Gorgoth, god of the orcs. His ruthless means in pursuit of his goals caused no small amount of grief for my PCs and their loved ones, and he too became an NPC for the record books.

  • I plan to more fully develop the stories of each individual's rise to prominence and then unholy alliance as I continue to work on my army, incorporating elements and events from the D&D campaign they were both in into their personalities and shaping them better to the Warhammer world.

Below is a list of what I've got to do and what's done. Green means completed painting, yellow means being painted or GS'd, red means not started and dark red means in need of stripping or more work than normal.

Finished the Goblin Boss with sword and shield (took the picture before basing was entirely finished) and started on the next fellow by drybrushing the copious amount of metal on the figure.
