Has anyone anyone any advice on tactics I could follow for my Necrons versus Orks (1000 pts). I am inexperienced and have my first game with new opponent who is a good player. I would at least like to not get obliterated. Should I just hide behind something?

I have available:
1 Lord
28 Warriors
3 Destroyers
1 Heavy Destroyer

Any ideas on this much appreciated.

It would be much easier if you had a monolith, if the orks get into CC, you are dead as crons get slaughtered the minute a CC unit touches them. Any idea what strategy the ork player is using? Kan Wall?

Hmm, problem I am seeing right off the bat, is you dont have enough models available to even field 1000. I am coming up with 929 and thats if you load out the lord fully. I guess you could give all your warriors disruption fields, but would still be short. But really thats not a big problem, specially if he will allow counts as. Specially if he will allow you to bring 2 groups of 10 warriors, and then use the other 8 as Immortals. That would get you close to 1000.

First would need to know your playstyle, or what you want to be your playstyle.

I know guys who like to run with infantry heavy units for necrons. I tend to favor destroyer wing style. I like my mobility specially to be able to kite when needed.

As far as tactics, do you have any idea what your opponent is going to bring?

I forgot to say that I have 8 Scarab Swarms too.
I think the Ork player is fielding more or less all infantry units.
