The BRB states that "Units with this ability that are locked in combat may choose to leave close combat at the end of the Assault phase." Does this mean at the end of the unit's owner's Assault phase, or either players'?

I would read it as saying that it would apply to both. If you charge, you can roll to withdraw. If your enemy charge you, at the end you can roll to withdraw.

OK, cheers!
Also, the Initiative test it refers to, is that roll a d6 anf roll equal to or under your initiative value, 1 always succeeds and 6 always fails?

Well, that is the way you do most characteristic tests, so probably!

IIRC (don't have the book handy) it is your initiative + d6 vs opponents Initiative + d6, higher total wins just like sweeping advance.

Not exactly. Hit and run is on P.75
You simply take an Initiative test.
It is like any other characteristic test, at or below your Initiative on 1d6.

So, does the Furious Assault +1 I work for the Hit&Run test?

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Yes, because it only requires you to take an initiative test, and does not stipulate "unmodified"

No, because they just attack at a higher I, it doesn't increase their I for the whole phase. Check out the wording in the FA USR.

I with Mannahnim on this one. Furious Charge says it give +1 to Initiative and Strength on the charge. Rolling to run away isn't on the charge.

Not even quite that, ChrisWWII. It says they make their attacks at a higher I, not that their I is increased for the phase, and it and goes on to specifically note that this doesn't apply for Sweeping Advance rolls.

Sweeping Advance tells you to use the unmodified initiative, which is why it doesnt apply.

The parenthetical note regarding SA in FA's rules is just a reminder, as the wording of the USR inherently makes the I bump inapplicable to anything other than attacks.

WHich is, for a change, the correct use of parethesis
The modifier from Mark of Slaanesh could be used for Hit and Run, as an aside.

Just for reference, the exact wording of Furious Charge is "In a turn in which they assaulted into combat they add +1 to both their Initiative and Strength characteristics when attacking in close combat (note that this has no effect on the Initiative tests for sweeping advances)."

One small point, for clarity: characteristic tests do not auto-pass on a "1". Tests on a characteristic of 0 auto-fail. I'm just nit-picky like that.

I nitpick your nitpicking. Characteristics tests do so automatically pass on a "1". You simply never get the chance to roll if the characteristic in 0 because the test automatically failed.

Most of the time you dont want to "hit and run" on the turn you furiously assault anyway, leaving the enemy free for their own turn. But I guess its good to know in case of units combining hit and run, furious charge and counter attack
