I got to play the demo of this game at TempleCon this past weekend, and really enjoyed it. It's a skirmish sci-fi game, and pardon the comparison, but it's everything I wish Necromunda had been.

The models look nice, and the rules were smooth and played well. I'm looking at picking up the entire line to take with me on Deployment, so i'll have some bang-bang.

So, anyone else know this game?

There's been a bit of discussion about it around the forum but nothing in depth.

I've got a couple of the models that I bought when they first came out.

I haven't got the rules yet.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Im curious as well, there seems to be nothing in the way of in depth rules reviews online, which makes me doubt how long the game will be around.

The system is based on a D10. Everything from initiative, to attacks, to armor checks...

Movement is based off the cards that come with the models, and facing is important as well. You get a free 45* turn per move, but more than that costs you a move.

It plays on a 2x3 board, but 3x3 is fine as well.

After i got the mechanics down, it moved smoothly, and I really enjoyed it. And a hardcover rulebook for $35 is a fair deal.

It only came out six weeks ago.

But it had been shown at GenCon.

One of the things I like aobut it is that there's no point system to the game. You just pick 5 models of your faction, and play.

I assume that was pre-production. The book only went on sale late last year, unless I am mistaken.

I don't know whether it represents good value for money and whether that will have affected sales and word of mouth marketing.

With respect to the argument about hardback wargame books, the high production values are nice, but they also drive up the cost. That must discourage casual buying.

I thought of buying the MERCS book to get the free promo figure, but I decided I could save the £30. If it had been £10 I would have snapped it up, with or without the model, for the interest of reading the rules.

Nods, a cheaper softcover would have been nice to have.

*shrug* If it entertains me for the next year, then it was worth the price.

Guys, the rules were free in PDF for like four months. LOL

Ask around if you want to check them out. I'm sure tons of us still have them floating around on our computers.

I should be getting my models in soon. Really looking forward to busting out my 'sci fi' terrain to play on.

Got my book and models in the mail the other day. So far, i'm impressed. The book is nicely put together, the models look nice and solid, and some friends and I will put the game through it's paces this weekend.

Definitely something to look into.

Devilsquid, please post an in depth review of the rules once you've had a chance to play. I'm interested in some of the subtle nuances, etc. that I hear are present in them.

Ive never heard of mercs, but i've just checked out the web site. The models look nice, and I'm intrigued about the lack of points and just picking five guys. Theres a local gaming club starting near me, mostly for warhammer and warhammer 40K players, but this might be a nice addition. Will continue my investigations..........
