Hello lads of Dakka! I have been playing through 8th with Dark Elves up to this point with a splish splash of Lizardmen (a smaller army) and am looking to up my armies to 3!! I intend to start picking up Skaven as soon as I have the cash for about half of it, so I have a little time to revise this list.

I am going with a sort of fluffy Clan Moulder theme, but having still be semi- competitive (mainly to not get blown out by serious armies). I will not be using any Special Characters however, as I only see them fit in rare situations (I do not NEED a special character to make my theme work so will not take one, if that makes sense.)

2500pt Clan Moulder

Lord:
Skaven Warlord-- ogre blade, talisman of preservation, dragon helm, potion of fool hardiness, bonebreaker, shield-- 258

Heroes:
Chieftain-- BSB, storm banner, shield--122

LV2 Engineer-- dispel scroll-- 125

LV2 Engineer-- 100

Core:
39 Storm Vermin-- full command, banner of under empire-- 330

60 Slaves-- sling, musician-- 182

60 Slaves-- sling, musician-- 182

10 Giant rats-- 3 Pack masters-- 54

10 Giant rats-- 3 Pack masters-- 54

10 Giant rats-- 3 Pack masters-- 54

Special:
2 Rat Ogres-- 2 pack master-- 96

2 Rat Ogres-- 2 pack master-- 96

6 Rat Ogres-- 3 pack masters-- 264

5 Gutter Runners-- poison, slings-- 90

Rare:
HPA-- spikes-- 250

HPA-- spikes-- 250

Total: 2500

This list is packing slaves with slings to make up for my lack of shooting (plus cover the Core requirement) each housing a Lv2, uses several small units of Giant Rats to help with deployment as well as run flanks to get to war machines (in addition to Gutter Runners). I am going to be supporting steadfast slaves with the small Rat Ogre units (like little chariots, gives the combat punch... I hope...). Storm vermin house the BSB and add some combat punch to the army. The Warlord, 2 HPAs, and 6 strong ROgre unit are my hard hitters... hopefully the enemy has too many targets to choose from

Thoughts? Comments and criticism encouraged and welcomed!!!

Hi,

Firstly I like the bonebreaker rat ogre. I like tooling him like this "Mounted on Rat Ogre Bonebreaker, Sword of Bloodshed, Enchanted Shield, Potion of Strength, Luckstone"

With the engineers I'd give one of the naked on a doomrocket and warp-energy condenser.

Not sure if you need the stormvermin at 40 strong. If you need some points this could probably be droped to 35 without loosing too much.

With your slaves I'd drop them to units of 40 and or scrap the slings.

I like running my giant rat packs in 6's with two packmasters. Either that or up them to 15 to get the full potential from them.

Also the Master Bred Rat Ogre is one of the best champion upgrades you can get You should deifnatley upgrade the unit of 6 and think about the units of two. I'd also add a fourth pack master to the big ogre unit.

Also what is the purpose of the gutter runners? just a bit of shooting?

Also I don't think spikes are worth it. +1 to dispel won't change too much and for the points you have to spend for it I think you can spend it better elsewhere (such as a warp-energy condenser)

Anyway there's my two cents. I like moulder based lists but they are difficult to get right and play effectively. You do sacrifice a lot by not having any of the skyre machines but you do get to hit face with big rats which is always fun.

I don't think you can put 2 packmasters with 2 rat ogres, my interpretation of it was that for every 2 rat ogres your allowed 1 packmaster.

No you can. It says in the eratta. It is for every two rat ogres you can add one packmaster. And the pack starts out as 2 rat ogres and 1 packmaster.

I am considering dropping 5 stormvermin to buy some toys for the engineers as was said, but I'm positive that I cannot lower my points from the slaves, need the core filled :(
also, giant rats I am thinking of making them two units of 15.

The runners are there for anti warmachine.

The spikes are for ethereal and the like, plus I'm already putting alot of points into the hpas so what's a little more? :p

as for the bone breaker lord, I want him to survive so I'm keeping the ward save lol

Something you might like to think about is using throt the unclean.
With him you can have giant rats count as core and 2 units of rat ogres as core.
His rabid hunger rule is a bit annoying but if you put him in a large unit of giant rats its not a big issue coz they only cost 3 points per model.
His other perk is that rat ogres and giant rats within 12" use his LD even if he's not general.

Also worth checking out skweel gnawtooth because his pack upgrades pretty cool.

Here are my two warptokens:

- I do like your general. He looks like some fun.

- I'd drop the Storm banner on your BSB and get him some protection. Charmed Shield and 5+ Ward or a 4+ Ward would be sweet. He is so incredibly important to your army, and with all that artillery and magic flying around...not to mention reg'lar rank-and-file joes.

- I'd put the Storm Banner on the Storm Vermin. If you really want two banners, I think the Shroud of Dripping Death is generally more useful.

- I'd also consider giving the Slaves shields instead of slings, so they give up as few CR as possible when the Rat Ogres hit home.

- That big unit of Rat Ogres is a pretty tasty target, especially since your general will be in there. Right? If that many points are going in to it, you might want to toss in two more for a unit of 9, and just go for it.

- Personally, I'm doubtful that 2 Rat Ogres will do much at this point level. 3 maybe. But if it works, then sweet.

- Finally, I'd always always take the Spikes. Fif. Teen. Points. And your big Frankenstein worm can eat ghosts. Ghosts, man. For fifteen points.

Other than that, I think this list is odd, but I have high hopes for you. If you ever get bored of the Warlord and the wizards, I'd suggest a Vermin Lord, to accompany your other rabid monsters to battle.
