It's almost that time gentlemen! I am running a 40k tournament this weekend (Feb 12) to prepare for Broadside. I will be taking their scenarios and fitting them to my system.

Tournament starts at 11am so be there by 10:30 to register and make your $20 buy-in or $10 cash. Points are the standard 2000, and bring your display boards and army fluff.

Hope to see you there!

Any other San Diego players up for a road trip?
Only a 1.5 hour drive strait up the 15.

Wish I could go, would love to practice before the BSB.

Already committed to helping some friends move.

Toby has a great store and always draws a good crowd.

Kelly you might want to ask Danny, Jeff and Russ.

@Toby: After the RT could you post some feedback on how the missions went?

Hmm, this sounds like excellent prep!

I wish I had known about this earlier to give She Who Must Be Obeyed more time to process...

We'll see.

Good Job to Warboss Russ and his 2 battlewagon Orks on winning. 2 majors and a Massacre.

Just a quick note-

BIG thanks to Toby and GMI games for running a great event! The store staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, Toby ran a great event and everyone had a really good time. I recommend events here for sure - I especially like his system for sports, comp and painting. It's a little out of the box, but well thought out.

Way to represent, San Diego!

Yeah, Toby has a great system for running soft scores.
Everything is run as a seperate category, but you can only wn won award per event.
Event winner is based on win/loss, battle points. Kick butt, win best General.
Painting is judged by the TO, who has won numerous awards...and his models on display show why. He uses a standard checklist and after the event will gladly explain why you were judged and how to improve.
Sportsmanship and Army comp/theme are player judged...with a twist. Their is a choice of 4 scores from top to bottom. You check one in each category. Then you MUST write a sentence or 3 explaining your choices. Something beyond "he was a great guy" or "WAAC Army list." Failure to provide this commentary results in YOUR score being penalized. This allows Toby to provide feedback (names are kept out of it...only the baseline comment is discussed) to the individuals in this area for improvement. Second, it prevents someone from chipmunking you on soft scores when they lose due to their own bad playing (or bad-luck dice).
Its a pretty cool system and leaves little doubt about who wins what award and takes alot of the subjective scores out of the battle arena.

Way to go, Russ! Nice one, especially with Orks, "the worst book in the game!" as the internet says.

Hey, can you guys please shoot my Toby's email so I can get the results of the tournament from him?

Thanks.

Thank you for the comments gentlemen. I am always looking to improve my system, so if you have any critiques, please let me know.

My next 40k tournament should be sometime around April 16. I will try to post the official date as soon as I know it.

The finishing order was:

Did you have painting awards, Toby?

Just speculating here, but I am confident that Toby did. Of course, the man will speak for himself. GMI is a great venue, the Fantasy Tourney's are a well remembered event in my mind....

I look forward to gaming there again, once I come back to California, that is!

Congrats to all and much success in future endevours!

I used my usual painting sheet.

Russ had the highest paint score (but took overall)
Followed by Paul (who had to drop at the third round)
Followed by Bryan (with his Iron Warriors)

Bryan earned the award.
