So I was looking at a unit consisting mainly of WG with Mark of the Wulfen. A squad of 8 would get you 8d6+16 attacks (44 avg) rending attacks on the charge/countercharge for 264 points. Seems kind of like expensive old Death Company. Compared to modern DC, you don't get Fearless, FC, FNP, Relentless, -1 WS and are at +13 pts/model (which is significant for wargear), but get Counter-Charge, an average of 2.5 more attacks (more than double) per model (or 1.5 v. BP/CCW), a bolter, and rending. For comparison, +17 more points per model, you get Thunderwolf Cav.

With Logan, you are scoring, however, and can take two more WG in termi armor and give them cyclones or assault cannons. Sticking them in A Land Raider with a Wolf Priest or Ragnar would make them ridiculously killy, but also very pricey. Just the LR puts them over 500.

Maybe better to outfit several with Power Weapons? It trims the price and guarantes some no AS attacks.

I think only one member of the unit may take the mark of the wulfen.

Dang, knew I missed something! Still, a unit of WG with generous amounts of Pweapons seems pretty nasty, too.

They are nasty that way, but they're also 28 points each if you give them all power weapons. For 33 you get a power weapon, a stormbolter and terminator armor.

But to answer your question, no I have not tried a dedicated CC Wolfguard unit. In my Logan list I focus on the shooty, missiles mostly. However I do have one unit of power armored marines that can drop pod in and lay down an insane amount of plasma fire.

Ower at the bolter and chainsword forum I understand grey mage (a very competent contributor to the comunaty) has had good times running a unit of 8 power weapon/pistol and 2 powerfist/meltagun wolf guards with a rhino in his list. I do not know the rest of his list but his armies are usualy quite good.

Edit: Also, I could recomend the lone wolf guard with jump pack, mark of the wulfen, flamer and a meltagun. You know, for deepstriking behind enemy lines for kicks. (to bad mr lone wolf can't do that trick)

The bad thing about terminator armour is that you are eather slogging, podding or landraidering your way acros the map. Podding is good of course, but that takes dedicated podding.

Heh, the jump single WG sounds pretty funny- have you used him in any games? It seems like it would be an awfully easy KP, though, and 1 melta doesn't guarantee much against armor. I have used 5 man squads in a DP with combi-meltas as suicide units as they will wreck armor.
