Standard by far. its 5 points cheaper and with the extra 5 points you can throw in a Melta gun.

What if I already have 2 meltas?

If you have 2 meltas, then you will benefit from the rerolls far more than the 2+d6 attacks because you have 10 GH already.

Agreed. Once per game the standard makes the whole unit substantially deadlier and more durable. The wolfen is okay, and works every turn, but how many rounds of HtH does the average unit actually get during a given game? If it's more than two or three you're probably winning anyway.

In fact, MotW only adds 1.5 attacks on average, whereas the standard adds 5 on average, assuming a 10 man squad that hasn't been joined by an IC and that has the charge bonus. So you'd need 4 rounds of combat for the MotW to give more attacks. Once you add in everything else the standard does, it seems like a no-brainer unless you think prolonged combat is likely.

Banner is very sweet for what it does. It can turn a combat around if properly used.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

The banner is a bit tricky to use (it activates in the next assaultface so you have to use it in the shooting phace) however, it alows you to reroll armour saves of 1 as well. Really deadly.

Mark of the wulfen is good with the banner as well, alowing you to reroll the 1.

Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

MOTW is great if you are running a squad without wolfguard or a power fist, as it gives you a chance for those rends to penetrate armour. Plus, in those games where the squad gets whittled down, it sometimes can turn the tide with a large # of attacks. But I do find they work better in 5-6 man razorback squads than 10 man regular squads.

But 15 points for at least a chance to glance/pen that dread or Defiler? Worth it most days for me.

Excellent advice in this thread.

Since I run 10man GH squads, banner wins.

Thanks all!

I tend to go with just the Mark for my 5 man Razorback teams, and both a Mark and a Standard for my 10 man GH squads.

Edit: typo

For my squads, every unit gets a Banner.

I usually run two types of Grey Hunters:
"True" Grey Hunters - MG, Banner with Wolf Guard
"Blood Claw' GH - Flamer, Banner, MotW

The MotW gives some added CC punch (quantity) vs the WG (quality).

MotW has come in real handy my last few games.

I run a 5 man RB unit with melta and the mark.

I think I will try running the banner but missing the rends might hurt.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

Actually, as the banner re-rolls to Hit and Wound and if you get 30 attacks you do the equivalent damage of about 41 "normal attacks" You re-roll 5 to hit and about 3 to wound on average.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

Standard. Rerolling the failed 1's on armour, hit and wound rolls is fantastic at times... especially with a MotW but if we're short on points, i'd go a standard

MotW though is hilarious for rending low armour walkers. Tearing apart a sentine or a kanl with your bare hands is always good for a laugh
