Thinking about making an IG army, and atm i am deciding whether i should go mechanised or regular infantry with some tanks. The avantages of a mech list, that i can think of, would be mobility and a lot of nice tanks. The obvious disadvantage would be less bodies, although i think maybe this could be overcome with some conscripts? The vast amount of points spent on non-scoring chimeras is of course also an issue, although i think it is better in escalation (IMO you should start with everything or nothing).

What other advantages does the mech list have? Anyone know any good concepts?

I use it.

You have to use the guys in the chimeras in a constructive manner or you will lose.
To help protect your Chimera, I recommend taking atleast a pair of Hell Hounds. Alot of opponets will prioritize on them, and it will save your chimera Firebase longer.
A 1500 point list that has 5 chimera, 3 squads, 2 command, 2 Hell hounds, and 3 Leman's is a pretty good list.

I agree with what Hawktel says. But be warry about the russ list of doom-sure it can hit like a ton of bricks, but it's a glass hammer: it takes one shot to pop a russ, and that hurts.

i have a vet. squad, a CC, the fortress of arrogance, a bassilisk, and a shadowsword domination force consisting of a shadowsword, 3 LRBT's, a sentinel and an infrantry squad in a chimera.

hasn't failed me yet, but be careful of masses of troops with meltabombs, power fists, and any other anti-tank combat stuff that can get real close. and meltaguns. and lascannons.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

It's a fine balance between bodies and vehicles. I like to err on the side of bodies, and bring footslogging platoons with lots of heavy weapons backed up by a mix of tanks, chimera vets/command squads and support vehicles (fast/arty). My focus is on maximizing the regular infantry squads to protect everything else (except the fast, which harrasses).

Keep a platoon handy to form a solid firebase.
A basic list should include your CCS, one platoon, at least two LRBT and then as many mechanized vets as you can fit.
HW should be slanted towards Autocannons and Lascannons, mortar squads are cheap and vastly underrated.
Missile launchers should be avoided, as Mortars are better at S4 Ap6 blasts, and Lascannons punch armor better.

I agree with the comments of Illeix wholeheartedly. ML's are only good in large lists where there's lots of other dedicated weapons already. Mortars are much better now that they are cheaper and it's minus 3 to scatter and no partials, and having weapons that pin and don't require LoS is a nice capability.

Go MECH. for 55 points, the Chimera is a really good deal. Just make sure you support your chimera spam with other units.
