I just got a second leman russ and I can't decide what variant to make it; Right now I'm stuck between the exterminator or the vanquisher; my first Leman russ is the battle cannon variant; I don't really want to make another battle cannon variant either

Magnetize the turret so that you can swap them on the fly, that way you wont have to choose.
I love battle Cannons personally. The Exterminator has its place though if you are lacking Autocannons and don't want hydras. The Vanquisher can have reliability issues but is a neat gun, it also runs into issues against hordes. The Eradicator could be a great snag or waste of points depending on who you are facing. If you run into KFF Orks a lot it could payoff well.
Again I think you should make the turret a swappable choice and IIRC there are a few tutorials for magnetizing floating around the site.

Cheers,

I would suggest the vanquisher. Just because I know this cannon better than most of the other ones you are debating about.

I agree with magnetizing the turret just so you can swap them out when you want to change them out.

If those are your only 4 options, and you aren't going to magnitize I'd go in this order:

1) Another BattleCannon - is arguably the best LR variant in the game. Cheap, good against all vehicles, deadly to MEQ.
2) Exterminator - Tough light vehicle killer (but for me, the Hydra is just better in almost all aspects).
3) Eradicator - It has it's place, but against a MEQ army your just going to spend your time hunting Scouts
4) Vanquisher - Suppose to be the Anti-Tank option, but don't waste your time. You get 5 shots total in the game on average, and you're going to miss half of those. Plus it doesn't even give you a +1 on the vehicle damage table.... total waste of points...

Now if you're looking for a different varient altogether, I'd think about the Plasma Bus (Executioner w/ Plasma Cannons), it's the only other LR variant that I'd use.... it's just a big bowl of wrong...

Hope this helps

I personally love the Executioner with Plasma Side Sponsons ( or as mr. fantastical put it, "Plasma bus").

Mind, i mainly play against my 'Nids brother where I need lots of AP2 shots a turn to kill the MC s before they get close. Throw Pask and a front lascannon (yes, I realize thats 295 points) and you have 6 Ap2 shots a turn (non-moving) that have a REALLY low chance to miss on MC bases (Trygon base is almost impossible to miss, its a giant base). Pure destruction against any MC s out there

Consider a looted one

But in all seriousness the variant with the plasma cannon as its main weapon can do serious work. A friend who plays IG at my FLGS absolutely mercs MEQs.

Why is he marching a trygon down the field instead of parking it behind your MC killing tank with a deep strike

Pretty much, the general consensus is that the best three are:

Leman Russ Battle Tank
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Executioner
