I am considering starting a new army... and I wanted to have a swarm army..

Since my friend already have Tyranids and Orks I tough the only other army I consider swarm is imperial guards.
Maybe Im wrong, please tell me if you don't think IG are swarm..

So in a webstore I used for valentines day they give off battle forces at 25% thats a nice deal..
But then I saw on GW website that IG has 2 battle force.

One cadian battle force and one catachan battle force.
Both are really similar exacept that one is composed of cadian shock troops and one of catachan jungle fighter

So for ~87 CND (instead of the usual 115$ CND) I would get
1 command squad (5 mini)
2 troops squad ( of 10 men each)
3 heavy weapon team
1 sentinel

What do you guys think..
Catachan or Cadian?

I was browsing through the IG codex and.. well tell me if im wrong.. but the battle force is only a sentinel away from being only 1 troop choice?

I did some quick math and if Im not mistaken IG can have 1 troop choice comprising 142 bases for 880 pts minimum...

Seninels are not a troops they are Fast Attack in the FoC (odd that since thay an't really that fast). The battle box can be used to make 1 CCS and 2 Vet squads, the heavy weapons can then be used (or not) in them. It gives you a legel army in a box (with some tatical flexabilaty with heavy load outs), more than most other battle boxes do.
Your right about the IG Platoon numbers, we can out hord even the most hordyist of armys with just 1 troop choice. as for cost, yes the IG do get on the pricy side after abit, hell just getting a 1500pts foot slogger list is going to cost a hell of alot of cash (but painting it is going to take longer to do)

As to which to use, well I went with the Cadians as they mached the IG look for me

yes, Guard armies are quite expensive on the pockets, but.. if you cannot decide between cadians or catachans, you could use your money for another brand of model (provided you dont play in an actual GW), such as Wargames Factory's Greatcoat shock troops.

the thing i have found with our hordiness, is that even with alot of numbers you STILL do not want to get into CC with anyone, especially orks.

I would go with Cadians, just because I hate the Catachan models. I could use them to convert some Tanith First and Only.

If you can, get some Forgeworld IG, they look awesome. Pricey though.

Be prepared to pay a lot for IG, though. The two main builds (Mech and Poweblobs) both cost a ton new.
