Hi all,

I'm just about to start playing 40k and have narrowed army choices down to Space Marines, Tyranids or Orks. But I'm reading about new and old codexes and I'm worried I'll lay out for a book and build an army based on it thats replaced after a couple of months. I think the Tyranids codex is fairly new but I think the other two are much older. So is there likely to be new codexes for SM and Orks soon or can I go ahead with no worries?

Thanks in advance,
Ferb

A new day, a new time zone.

Orks were released just before 5th edition started, Marines were the first codex released after, so we're not going to see a new one for either of them until 6th edition rolls around.

Personally I dont think there will in the next few months... some other armies have a much bigger need for a new codex than the orks and the SM. I'm wondering tho.. since GW is working on ork for Warhammer (not 40K) Im wondering if they are going to touch the 40K orks. They have just released the Blood Angel codex and new miniature for them.

Do you plan to play huge tournament or just friendly games with some close friend?

Anyway I wouldn't be too worried... go ahead.
BTW if you are low on cash I would recommend SM, they cost less than orks or Tyranids.

Eldar from the Ixialen Craftworld (6000pts) / Chaos from the Bloody dawn company (5000pts) / Imperial Guard from the Minerva 3rd Battalion (3000pts) / Crimson Drop compagny (BA) 2500 pts
No my avatar is not one of my unit, its a very nice work of conversion wouldn't you say?

Right behind you. No, really.

My codex predictions
GK
Necrons
SoB/Tau
Tau/SoB
Chaos Mehreens

So, as you can see, not much cause for worrying about SMs or Orks.

Thanks for the replies.

LazyPete, I'm just planning on friendly games at the local club so I don't need anything special. But thanks for the tip about SM, I am on a tight budget so that will help :-)

Orks and Nids definately will be safe for a long time. The SM book, however, entirely depends on when they decide to roll 6th edition out. The SM codex usually is the first one of any wave to be updated, regardless of schedules.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.
