My 9-man Grey Hunter squad has Mark of the Wulfen, a Meltagun and a Wolf Standard. How should I distribute these throughout the Squad? I was thinking of giving the mark and meltagun to the same guy since he can fire it and attack the same turn. Or what else should I do? Even put the standard on him?

I separate them as much as I can. Don't like having all my eggs in one basket.

A meltagun is an assualt weapon.

Separate, that way you only lose your bonuses 1 at a time. Kill off the banner bearer first since it's no longer useful after you use it in first assault

Separate is my choice. Both for spreading out the valuables, and for modeling.

So that's the tactic for the Standard? First assault?

Also, what should I put on my Mark model? Just give him a boltgun since giving him a chainsword is a waste.

Timing for the standard can be a little tricky; you don't want to wait too long to use it, as it's most effective when you have as many models as possible still alive to benefit. But you don't want to waste it on an easy assault where you know you're winning anyway. That said, probably better to err on the side of earlier rather than later.

He's equipped with a bolter, bolt pistol, and chainsword anyway. All Grey Hunters are. Give him whatever. I like giving them close combat weapons to make them look more barbaric and to mark them out in the squad.

Reasons to use the Banner Early

1) You are striking first, If you are charged by a bunch of orks, the more you kill, the fewer attacks back you will take. therefore it is to your advantage to take out as many as possible as early as you can.

2) You are fighting Fearless enemies. The more you can kill, and especially if you can win combat, then your extra wounds delt will be doubled as they enemy will need to take No Retrat saves.

Reasons to save the banner

1) It will not make you wil the round of combat, but maybe the next. If you are pretty sure that you will lose this round of combat, Banner or not, then you might want to save it for the nex round where the enemy looses charging bonuses, Furious charge, or other buffs that would let you win combat NEXT round with the help of you banner. Example, Blood angels. If you can kill off the priest in the squad this turn, and then next turn you are figthing on more even ground and the banner could help you win combat...maybe..
