Hive guard are not really designed to fight. They have good guns and can't shoot in close combat.

I think he means tyrant guard. What would happen is your Tyrant guard, who seem to not have a tyrant to guard. get smashed or block line of sight for ou zoanthopes. Try using warriors or shrikes.
