Subject: High Elves as Gondor?

Hello everyone. As im sure many of you guys on here are as well I am a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy, in particular my favorites being the Soldiers of Gondor. I have been debating this for a while and figured that the High Elves would be the best fit in order to "convert" my guys as much as possible to look like the guys from the movie. The only thing that ticks me off about the whole thing however is the lack of Trebuchets and stone throwers this army has . Here is what i was thinking for both armies, as usual if you all ideas, thoughts comments are welcome. Or if any of you have done something similar or the same thing feel free to post what you did, thanks again mates!:
GONDOR CONVERSION:
-Book: High Elves
-Teclis/Archmage/Mage: Gandalf
-Eltharion the Grim (On Foot)/Alith Anar: Boromir & Faramir
-High Elf Spearmen/Archers/Lothren Sea Guard: Soldiers of Gondor (*Will be ordering massive amounts of White lion Legs off Ebay in Order to create the image of the metal knee length skirts of the soldiers of Gondor*)
-Shadow Warriors: Rangers of Gondor (*Will be using Glade Guard Models*)
-Knights of Dol Armoth: Dragon Princes (*Order Phoenix Guard Heads and put them on Silver Helm Bodies*)
-Citadel/Tower Guard: Phoenix Guard (*Will greenstuff black cloth to cover nose and mouth*)
-Swordmasters: Knights of Dol Armoth On Foot (*Both they and Dragon Princes have x2 Attacks base, would fit pretty well*)

I would think the empire would be a better fit, after the Men of Gondor are just men, not super fast elves.

Using High Elves "counting as" Gondor Humans "counting as" High Elves is a bit much of "counting as", esp. as the Gondor look is something specific from another setting.

When I was 11 I went to my FLGS and found on the counter a big pile of Battletech Booster Packs. Having never played any kind of card game before, and no frame of reference outside of 'Mechwarrior was really cool, I like Timberwolf!!!!1' I decided to buy them. After examining them thoroughly, and realizing they were in fact wicked cool, I returned every week and threw the entirety of my pocket money (earned scrubbing dishes, mowing the lawn, washing the windows, and stomping massive spiders, you know, Cinderella chores) into as many cards as I could buy. After four months I decided my deck was sufficiently badass and (stopping only briefly to learn the rules) I had my mom drive me to the weekly games night my FLGS threw. That's when I learned that literally nobody else in the city collected Battletech. I had to wait four hours to get picked up.
I know how you feel. I was skeptical, but I looked at the Gondor models on the site. Yeah, okay, High Elves is a pretty good match. Hell, the Bolt Thrower is perfect. Go for it. But I probably would just call them stand-ins for High Elves and leave it at that. People get nervous when you invent your own armies.
Edit: Wait, I misunderstood. You want to convert High Elf models to look like Gondor models (ignoring the really pretty good looking models in the LOTR game) to play as High Ellves? I don't know how to handle that.

There's really nothing wrong with trying to make your army look like another if you're willing to put some effort into it. Bladantly using LotR models though, will raise a few eyebrows. If you are up for the endeavour of converting High Elves though, there's nothing really stopping you.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

i would just buy the LoTR models and put them on square bases.
GW's LoTR models are actually a little cheaper then the Fantesy models. you will pay $27ish for 24 men of gondor(8 with Sword and shield, 8 with spears, and 8 with bows) while you will pay $35 for 16 Elves(either spearmen or archers)
all you have to do then is buy GWs square base bag to put all your Gondorians on the proper bases for fantesy.
you pay 30 for 5 Dragon princes. 33 for 6 Swan Knights.
you save 50 cents buying a gondor bolt thrower instead of a HE one.
i actually think its a good way of saving money. get LoTR models.
now i can't figure out why more people don't play LoTR. it's alot cheaper then Fantesy. granted the game mechanics are almost completely different(which is a little strange to me)

I think the LotR models are a bit small for WHFB. I have a handful of elves and gobbos and gondorians, and they are all pretty short, probably true 25mm. Nice models, mind you, but I suspect that they would look a little strange on the table with WHFB stuff.
Then again, it is a LOT cheaper than buying bits of elves to convert.
As to OP's plan, that seems fine to me. They are elves that look like elfy humans. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. It does seem like a lot of work to me, and perhaps ASF elves don't line up really well with Gondor's army, who were good but not THAT good, but I am at a bit of a loss as to how you would do it otherwise (though Empire is REALLY flexible) so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Worst case ever one figures you just have a converted Elf army.

I use my Empire warriors as counts-as G.I. Joe. It annoys my opponents to no end when I go, "I score 6 hits with my blue laser guns, Cobra Commander, and knowing is half the battle!"*
*I don't do any of this.

Interesting idea but your going to run into some issues with your conversion ideas, mostly that lotr models are a slightly different scale to fantasy ones.

LoTR is actually a uniform scale. all the models are scale to each other.
Fantesy isn't like that.
