I've been searching on google for a way I could "copy" a model I scratch-built. It's made of plastic, with a ton of custom stuff, including a special axe, and even armor!

I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to use resin, but where should I buy what I need? And what DO I need?

I'm thinking resin, something (Silicone?) to make a mold, and from there, no clue.

I've been looking at:
ComposiMold, http://www.composimold.com/
This kit, http://www.amazon.com/Moldmaking-Casting-Pourable-Starter-Kit/dp/B000QCHVC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1296338318&sr=1-1

And this tutorial:
http://ultrawerke.blogspot.com/2007/02/resin-castig-tutorial-part-i.html

So, what do I buy? What is the best way to make a copy of a model? Any input?

Thanks in advance.

Use silicone rubber for the mold and polyurethane resin for the cast. I use Oomoo 25 rubber and quick cast 305 or 300 from Smooth On products, all of which can be bought from

As for the process of recasting originals:

Loads of information there on the process.

"Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! ... It’s become the promotions department of a toy company." -- Rick Priestly
