Okay, so I've been trying out the CMON modelling plastic and hving some good results.... kind of. My big issue is the medium I'm using to press-mold. So if you would be so kind, please help me find the right kind of putty to press-mold with.

When you suggest one, please do me a favor (and anyone else who may have the same questions I do) and let us know where we can find the material. Thanks in advance!

What I've tried so far:

Kneadtite Green Stuff - First off, I hate this stuff. It's too sticky to my hands and not enough to the model or anything else I want it to stick to. It's also a chore to even cut soem off the stick since the yellow gets EVERYWHERE on the blade when I cut it.

Good news is, it does seem to hold the detail well. Not as hard once dry as the Milliput is though.

Which brings me to Milliput!

I've used the Standard Yellow/Grey. It worked VERY well and dries as hard as plastic which I LOVE. However, it just seems too brittle.

Now, I'm not familiar with Milliput, but I do know there is more than one "color." Do these different colors have different properties? Has anyone experimented with all of them? I read that Superfine White might be what I'm after as it holds detail better than the standard yellow/grey which is more for sculpting whole figures. Anyone have any input on that?I'm also going to start trying some sculpting myself. Particularly for some of the things GW has not yet produced, like Wracks for my Dark Eldar force. So I'm pleased with the Milliput, but need something more.

The last thing I want to ask about is mixing. Would mixing GS and Milliput maybe give me a better final result? Fill the tiny outer details with GS and then the middle with Milliput? Anyone ever tried that before?

Also, some things I personally have never used, but am curious about:

ProCreate
Magic Sculp (Magic Sculpt?)

Saw articles (VERY helpful but not quite all that I wanted to know) on Warseer:

And Mad Grot Docsnik has an amazing article on http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=30279

So thank you to them if they are Dakkaites as well!

For press moulding I'd use Greenstuff as a mold (as its slightly flexible even when cured, that way then its easier to pop your moulded piece out without breaking the mold) and either Greenstuff or milliput as the moulding material, depending on what you need. With greenstuff always have anything you have touching that you don't want to stick to it wet with water.

50/50 mix of milliput and greenstuff can be useful as its as strong as milliput but more flexible.

Speaking of GS, is there anywhere that you can buy it for cheap? I am in need of some, but it's massively overpriced.

I've used the green stuff as my molding material (dip your fingers in water and it won't stick to you) and for my molds I use cheap hardware store plumber's putty (Devcon brand from Walmart currently) It holds detail perfectly, and it dries fast and hard.
I don't do much press molding, these are just the materials I had on hand for modelling anyway

I'm using the CMON mold which is epically awesome. I'm going to give a try to the 50/50 GS/Milliput though. Do you mix each one individually and then mix them together? Or mix all four parts at once? What gives better results?

To get cheaper GS, DO NOT BUY IT FROM GW.

GW DO NOT MAKE IT. THEY MERELY REPACKAGE IT.

Look up Polymeric Systems inc. They are the manufacturer.
They sell the tape form in 36" lengths (not the 12" GW sell it in) and the prices are generally only about 50% more than GW charge for the smaller pack.

Not to advertise but Troll Forged sells GS for 12.50 for 36" strip.
I believe milliput and GS would work. Try Apoxie Sculpt from aves studios. Mixes great 1:10/1:20 GS to AS. But yeah, you really don't need a lot of GS. More Milliput/AS is better.

But is Apoxie Sculpt less brittle than Milliput? And I don't buy GW greenstuff.... but thanks?

I was really looking for more info on the consistency of the material both before and after curing.

Yes, it is very similar to Milliput , just slightly less soluble in water pre-curing and is rock hard and moderately brittle but not as much as milliput. It appears to also be cheaper.
