IG Legends

Yeah Rambo, we all love Rambo, but somehow he's just not enough. We want more. MORE! So I suggest this unit to replace Rambo with a customizable 'super veteran' who represents the best soldiers humanity has to offer.

They really need a better name but for now 'Legends' will have to do.

0-1 Legend (Imperial Guard Elite choice) – 30 Points
WS4, BS4, S3, T3, W3, I4, A3, Ld9, Sv5+

The uncounted billions of soldiers of the Imperial Guard and Planetary Defense Forces vary tremendously. Some are devoted volunteers, others are members of an elite warrior caste and many are ill-trained draftees literally pressed into service at the barrel of a gun. But for many their fate is the same, an ignoble death in a muddy ditch.

However there are always a few who survive again and again. Their names become legend: Marbo, M'koll, Cain, Rock, Fury, Blazkowicz, Wayne, Willis, Stallone, Schwarzenegger… Men who can turn the tide of an entire battle by himself. Mere men who have stood toe to toe with alien gods and warp-spawned daemons. Men who can out-shoot an Astres or out-fight an Ork Nob. An entire Imperial regiment would be lucky to see even one of these legendary warriors in its entire history.

Wargear
Legends are armed with a lasgun, laspistol, close combat weapon, frag and krak grenades.
Legends have Fearless, Infiltrate, Move through cover and Loner (cannot take orders)
Legends are a unit of 1 model, they are not independent characters and may not join units.

Replace the lasgun with:
• Shotgun for 0 points
• Hotshot Lasgun (18" rapid fire, S3, AP3) for 3 points
• Bolter for 3 points
• Storm Bolter for 8 points
• A Combi flamer for 10, Combi Grenade for 10, Combi Melta for 15, or a Combi plasma for 15
• Sniper rifle – 10 points
• Grenade Launcher – 10 points

Replace the close combat weapon or laspistol with:
• Power Weapon – 10 points
• Power Fist – 15 points
• Venomed Blade (wounds on 2+, not a power weapon) – 10 points
• Monofiliment Blade (rending) – 5 points
• Plasma pistol – 10 points
• Needle pistol (wounds on 4+, AP-) – 5 points
• Hotshot Laspistol (S3, AP3) – 5 points
• Inferno Pistol (S8, melta) – 15 points
• Hand Flamer (works as a flamer once per game, then acts as a CC weapon) for 10 points
• Metal Storm Pistol (S4, 12", Assault 6, one use then counts as a CC weapon) for 15 points

Add any or all of the following:
• Camouflage (grants stealth (+1 to cover saves)) – 10 points
• Carapace Armor (4+ save) – 5 points
• Melta bomb – 5 points
• Demo charge – 20 points

Legendary Skills

Legends may take 3 of the following skills for the listed points.

• Arms Master (+1 WS, BS and I) – 20 points
• Eternal Warrior – 10 points
• Fast (model gains Fleet and always rolls 3 dice when running (pick the highest)) – 10 points
• Furious Charge – 10 points
• Gunfighter (model may use two pistols during the shooting phase, if the model does not move he may fire any pistols twice (for a maximum of 4 shots)) – 10 points
• Gunner (model may board any friendly vehicle and man one weapon) – 10 points
• Heavy Gunner (adds relentless, model may take a heavy stubber for 5 points, heavy bolter for 10 points, an auto cannon for 15, a missile launcher for 15 or a las cannon for 20) – 0 points (+weapon)
• He's behind you! (Model must start in reserve, when he enters place him anywhere on the board at least 2" away from an enemy model, may shoot but may not move or assault that turn) – 20 points
• Inspiring (units within 12" gain stubborn) – 20 points
• Leader (may issue orders as a Platoon Commander) – 10 points
• Marksman (model may assign all wounds caused by shooting attacks (but not templates), all shooting weapons gain rending) – 10 points
• Martial Artist (model may assign all wounds caused in assault, all assault weapons gain rending) – 5 points
• Pilot (model and board any friendly vehicle and drive/fly it. The vehicle gains a 5+ invulnerable save) – 10 points
• Quick Reflexes (4+ invulnerable save) – 20 points
• Scout – 10 points
• Specialist Gunner (model may take a flamer for 5 points, a melta gun for 10 points or a plasma gun for 15)

A strange place

So it would be a unit, you can use to fill in a specific need?

Also rambo does exist in 40k its Marbo

Only real problem I see is that to create the equivalent of Marbo, you need to spend 130 points... (minus Hit-and-Run and his AP2 pistol, although the legendary character has +1 wound) Not sure how the best way to solve this would be, but it seems like quite a disparity. Maybe Marbo is just ridiculously cheap, but he's still a very easy KP.

Perhaps lower the initial cost of the basic model? It's 30 points for a guardsman with +1 WS,BS and I. I also think 2 wounds is plenty.

I'm thinking T4 base might not be a bad idea either. Legendary humans often have T4, especially if they're frontline fighters.

How about buying 0-3 of them as a single elites choice, but that each operate independently, like Death-Cult Assassins, for instance?

Just thinking out loud, I like the idea very much!

Be fair all you have to do is switch the M and the R and you get Rambo... + he is a Catachan trooper... and his fluff basically screams Rambo...

I think someone needs to write the rules for the Legendary Guardsman, Captain Obvious.

Always rolls an extra D6 for thread derailment. And has a Chainfist with Rending.

Martial Artist is 5pts how? Rending and you can assign damage within a squad. Nothing like assassinating sargeants who inevitably are given a lot of wargear.

Agreed, that's a little bit on the cheap side, maybe +15 points?

Although keep in mind that doesn't mean you can lump 4 wounds on a Sergeant. You are still beholden to the wound-allocation rules (each model must receive a wound before you can double up, remove whole models where possible etc) so while you could allocate a single wound to the Sergeant (picking a rending one, of course!) you can't treat him like an IC and ninja him completely with all the wounds you dealt that phase.

It's the same as the old Telion situation people were discussing back in the day.
