I just came into a few cheap falcons and am in the process of building them. However I dont really want to fumble around with the interior of the thing, so I was trying to decide on whether or not to just glue it down and spray it black, like tinted windows. But I feel it's sort of a waste. Does the interior of the canopies really add much to the model or is it ok to just spray it black with a few highlights? I'm planning on making a few stormraven and Valk purchases too, which have the same problem.

You will likely get a lot of opinions, only one that matters is yours, do whatever you like.

Personally ive painted canopies before, but i tend to use a shade of blue, and if the clear part is still in good condition I paint the inside of it not the outside. I have seen it done in many different colors, so do whatever works with the paint job you are doing. A friend of mine liked to do a couple layers of thinned red over silver base.

Thing is, since the Canopy wont be clear, I plan on not adding the driver in, saving the bitz for conversions later. However if I do decide, later down the road, that I want clear canopies, I would be screwed since the model would be glued shut.

Glue it sparingly with something like Elmer's - anything else will frost it - if you want the option of removing the canopy later. Simply Green will probably remove the paint without damaging the plastic; I wouldn't trust many other paint removers.

If blue doesn't match the scheme, you could use green or yellow, really any color that one might tint glass. And if one is an alien, who knows what color one might prefer one's glass tinted?

Spray it black from the inside and it will look like tinted black. Then paint the framework your hull color.

actually my problem is that if I do make the canopy clear after gluing everything together, the driver will be missing and there'd be a gaping hole looking into the inside structure of the model.

I think I'll go with the spray on the inside idea, that seems to be the best way and I can preserve the inner tint if I ever decide to strip the model.

If its the first one you've made do the cockpit. When you do future ones you'll have a better idea. It's like my SM drop pods. I finished one on the inside. That's the only one.

If you are seriously thinking of stripping the paint in the future just paint it on don't spray 'cos then its way easier to clean off. The spray bonds slightly with the plastic so I doubt that you'd ever end up with a clear canopy again. It does take an age painting the pilot and all the fiddley bits inside espcially when you want a high standard. That's what I did with mine but if I was doing it over I'd probably go with the painted windows.

This is my first time doing an Eldar cockpit. I've done the interior of a Rhino before, not fun >_<
