Necrons is the rumor I've heard too.

We would hope it's not another marine book and Necrons are the oldest around.

SoBs are the next oldest but I've not heard a whisper of them being updated.

I would guess it's Necrons and then (SIGH) Green Space Marines or Black Space Marines.

And then 6th edition hits.

If Necrons do come out i am totally jumping on that bandwagon... been looking at them a lot recently and they seem more and more tempting.

Praying for Necrons ever so badly. Honestly just want a few more models as options to use and a very clear definition of what WBB can and Cannot be affected by. And also the Void Dragon to wake up opening up a new Mechanicus army that can be allied with the Necron army, denying the Space Marines what they have hoped for for so long

Necron would be another one of those "acceptable" bandwagons like DE for a while, unless they rise to marine-level bandwagoning like the IG.

Except Jess GODwin is already working on "veild" SoB. So after necrons its SoB. Then sixth, as all the old armies would have had an update.

And I bet Tau get the first update for sixth.

Most likely list based on Codex age:

Necrons, Sisters, Tau, BT, Eldar, DA

However if 6th edition is released in a year or two, the order might be skewed.

Wait, are there real rumors of 6th ed already, or are people just assuming that a new rules edition is due based on the length of time between 4th and 5th?

4th ed had some serious problems, which warrented 5th ed coming out so much more quickly after 4th ed came out. 5th ed seems like it's weathering time much better than 4th ed did.

5th's not without it's faults, mainly the preference for vehicles and prevailance of cover saves, but I guess most of the speculation stems from the fact that 8th edition was released for Fantasy, as well as we're polishing off the last few pre-4th-eldar-codexes.

Other than Phil Kelly saying he was trying to get the book, and Jes Goodwin talking about how the biggest problem they're having right now is the finnicky nature of the 'robed sleeves' in plastic?

I would guess it's Necrons and then (SIGH) Green Space Marines or Black Space Marines.

You know, they actually can probably delay the relaease of DA or BT codexes thanks to the new FAQ, at least for a while.

After Necrons, I'm thinking Tau, if the SoB rumor ends up not being true. If it is, then maybe Tau will come out with 6th edition.

Knowing GW, they probably wont delay a SM codex. The Crons know that very well.

I would say its a toss up between Necrons and SoB.

After those two, Tau, then Eldar, and then Angels, and Templar.

However, if in this order 6th comes out, then you will have to add vanilla marines into the order (wherever we are). Cause thats how the GW world goes round.

I wouldn't put any hopes or money on that man, there has been no rumours to suggest CSM's and Sisters and 'Crons at the very least are rumoured to be the next two.
I can't see Chaos coming until 2012 at the earliest. Which isn't too unreasonable IMHO as their Codex isn't too shabby in 5th edition. But hey, lots not have that argument...

But yeah, GK have been confirmed as the next Codex as some have said. There's also been fairly strong rumours for Necrons and Sisters to be next as well as a load of flyers released in the summer...

When 6th comes out the armies in the new starter set will probably be updated first, which will inevitably include spece marines, or atleast some new units for them. Other than that everyone wants Necrons to be updated but who knows, GW might spite us for another year.

True; I don't see them until mid 2012 either, but that is still mid-term in terms of codex schedule.

8th edition was a flop. Take-up has been poor and a lot of players went back to 7th. From what I have heard on the forums.

That wouldn't stop GW from doing 40K 6th, though.

The preference of vehicles in 5th is partly because the most popular armies (SM and IG, basically) have very cheap, effective vehicles. That's not to say anyone else doesn't or wouldn't use vehicles, but they can't spam them across the battlefield like IG and SM.

Why was 8th ed a flop? I admittedly don't spend much time in the Fantasy part of the board, but I'm sincerely curious.

I remember seeing a poll which gave it a good reception, but I do commonly see people criticising it and refusing to play it.

I can't imagine this is helped by the lack of 8th edition army's until this month...

We haven't recieved much in the way of 5th-ed xeno vehicles past the DE, and many of those are rather tempting too. While they all have reduction in costs, I never thought a Rhino was worth 50 points (especially since they tend to get blown up after the first turn, if they're lucky). The modifiers for the penetration table though, seems to largely favour vehicles. Skimmers too, as they got alot more durable imo since they dont auto-crash on an immobilized (unless it was flat out).

Hopefully Necrons will be to vehicles as DE was to Nidzilla. That or we get a few more xeno codex releases with cheaper vehicles and methods of dealing with them. Cover saves, though, is still pretty prevailant (and largely what rendered thousand sons somewhat obsolete).

On moon miranda.

Personally I've found 8E WHFB has revitalized much of the playerbase. Three armies dominated 7E, one of those killed it. From around may 2008 (the Daemon release) until the release of 8E I saw a continual decline and eventual extinction of WHFB players on most play days and events went from consistently having as many people as 40k to sometimes having to be cancelled due to lack of players. I've seen more uptake in 8E WHFB, but usually from newer players, as many players either quit 7E because of how bad the army imbalance was or those who played one of the favored armies doggedly stick to it as they can't tear through opponents the same way in 8th. 8th has its problems, but its way better than 7th.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

Daemonhunters/Grey Knights is currently in playtesting(know some playtesters, although they are under an NDA to not say anything about it), and is the next one to come out, likely last 1st quarter or early 2nd quarter.

All signs point to Necrons being the next one after that. No official word of course, but "leaks" from sources who usually end up being right are pointing to it.

Sure, 5th ed isn't perfect but its problems are mostly style and nuisance-bases. 4th ed had SERIOUS problems like SMF and assault units that took 4 turns to cross the board, and then were invincible once they arrived.

I mean, GW has put out some literature recently that has gone over poorly, like the BA codex, Planetfall, and 8th ed WHFB, which gives me hope that they are starting to learn not to release stuff until they're sure it's better than what was there before. I mean, their most successful stuff, like the most recent guard and ork codecies were so because they basically left things alone, while tweaking stuff. 5th ed could definitely use a tweaking (wound wrapping, seriously?), but I don't know if there's enough actually wrong with it to justify an entire new rules edition.

I mean, unless someone has a well-sourced rumor that they're doing just that.
