This weekend I had another game with my small Deamons force. The details are irrelevent, except that one unit was Skulltaker on Juggernaught + 5 Bloodcrushers. Afterwards, it was suggested by an onlooker I should have diverersify the bloodcrushers so I "could mess about with allocating wounds". When I pressed the guy, it became clear he was just reciting stuff he'd heard somewhere else

So, can someone exlain (slowly please, rugby has taken it's toll on my brain cells..) how this diversification is goping to help me allocate wounds??

Thank you..

If there are models in the unit with different items (such as your icon, instrument and rending weapon), you may place one wound on each individual model before you have to remove one, as they are all different.

Say you have skulltaker, those 3 different ones and 2 regular guys. You can put one wound on Skulltaker, one on the icon, one on the instrument, one on the rending AND one on a normal guy before you have to remove models. Hope that helps a bit

it really only works when every modelin the unit has both multiple wounds and different equipment.

the largest a Bloodcrusher unit can get before this stops working is 4. 1 iconbearer, 1 musicion, 1 Herald, and 1 regular dude.

most often, you see this with Nob squads as they can equip 10 nobs 10 different ways. that means, aside from ID wounds, it takes 11 wounds to kill a single ork.

@ Grey Templar: I think you mean 5-don't forget the model with a Rending attack too-Fury of Khorne, I believe. And any further additions of Heralds work as well to increase this bonus (I believe the heralds have to be armed differently too though). And yeah, Ork Nobz are the nastiest unit to do this with.

The others have explained how it works. Here is another example. I am assuming that bloodcrushers are 2 wound models? I've never played against them.

If you didn't diversify your unit, and had 5 bloodcrushers that were the same you would have to roll their wounds together. If you took 4 wounds, you would roll your saves. If you failed 2, you'd have to take a model off the table.

If you diversified them like Grey Templar's example, then you'd get to allocate the wounds before rolling them. If you failed 2 armor saves, they'd be spread out among the squad, preventing you from having to lose a guy.

You can also make sure that instakill or hard to save wounds get put on the guy who's already wounded.
