My question is ARE THERE ANY TECHNIQUES FOR FAST DEPLOYMENT AND MOVEMENT? I plan to deploy around 80 regular figures and 45 infiltrators (gotta love dem orks). Any experienced "hoarders" tournament players please post......NOW!

Chaos daemons 1850
Chaos Marines 1850
2250+

2500++ (Wraithwing)

I moved so starting from scratch. These were the armies I had, rebuilding my Chaos.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

- On normal terrain, measure and move the front row and then move the back rows in to fit. Make sure to maintain the same gaps and I always notify/ask my opponent first.

- Ask your opponent if they would prefer you rolled your run and moves together. Not legal without opponent consent and I can't use this for my IG, unfortunately :(

- Movement trays and a display board. Make sure your not putting your minis away or dumping them in a pile each game. I use a board to carry everything and individual movement trays for the units. The trays don't stay on the table, but they help me transfer the unit from the board to the table.

- Arrange your minis while waiting for your opponent to move so they are ready to go for your next game. Just having everything together and ready to go can really speed things up.

- Know what you're going to do before your turn. If you're trying to decide what you're doing and move 100+ models, you will take forever.

- Unlikely, but... Check your opponents lists for templates and blasts. If they don't have any, then just line the boyz up. If they don't have any that can get to you until turn 2 or 3 or 4, then plan accordingly and use that to your advantage.

- Don't screw around. You might be able to get away with it with an elite army, but with a horde you have to be on your game. Not to mention that most opponents are a bit suspicious of how much time a horde will take anyway. So be extra on top of your time.

That should help a bit. Oh and Practice!

(I played a 100 model IG horde at a 1500, 1.5 hour game, 4 match tourney last month and finished before each game ended by doing a lot of the above.)

Or, to summarize, you have practice until you're the perfect 40k player, and ask your opponent to bend the rules in order for hordes to be competitive in tournaments. And you wonder why mech armies rule the circuit...

Buy Lord of the rings movement trays (or make some yourself) and cut them out and put them into 2 or 3 units per base 2" apart. Now you have halfed or 33% of the units you originaly had to move.

Look at these:

It looks nice but that would do hell to trying to move them over terrain that isn't completely flat.

Plus you would need a TON for 2" coherancy.

It's doable, dude.

Like pretre said, run in the movement phase when it is inconsequential, and practice moving your models super fast. I have a friend who plays competitively with a 200 model Ork Horde and he finishes games on time regularly.

But, as has been said, you need to know what you are going to do before it is your turn. You must have a clear idea of where your units are moving and attacking so that you can focus on just getting everything moved in time.

Have some way to count dice quickly and get into the habit of setting up your rolls ahead of time. Use the box the dice came in (if they are chessex or similar) or make a tray that helps you count out the dice quickly.

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

Also I have made a mershument device that is 6 inches long and 2 inches wide, mesuring up each inch with a red line. It REALLY helps putting my longsfangs 2 apart etc.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Back fill when moving. This is what I mean.

Move your front models up 6" Make sure all the important models are on this list -- nobs, ICs, special weapons, etc...
Then pull the models from the back of the unit to fill the 6" gap between the models you just moved. Its the same as moving all 30 models up 6", but a lot faster.

That and I have noticed deployment essential, set up your models on a tray or something before hand to make placing them on the table faster.

Movement trays for deployment and remember you have 2 hands ... many a time I have seen people move models one by hand with only one hand - use both means half the time!!

Also, base your models with something heavy, so that they do not top over on wobly terain.
