Ok, I have been struggling for a long time now to come up with a powerful daemon build that I can run in tournaments. For a while there, I was running 2 flying princes and 2 bloodthirsters, but I think there are more competitive options out there than that top heavy list. here is my attempt at something strong.

HQ
Bloodthirster, Unholy might
Skulltaker, Juggernaut
Herald of Khorne, Juggernaut, Fury of khorne, unholy might

Troops
5 plague bearers
5 plague bearers
5 plague bearers
5 plague bearers
5 bloodletters
5 bloodletters

Elites
4 bloodcrushers, fury of khorne, Icon of Chaos, Instrument of chaos
6 fiends
6 fiends

Heavy Support
Daemon prince, Iron Hide, Mark of nurlge noxious touch
Daemon prince, Iron Hide

The heavy support is where I am not sure. Sould grinders or daemon princes, that is the question. Anyway, Thoughts?

Bloodthirster is good - you can keep him if you want, he'll be a bit of a fire magnet, so you've gotta be careful were you DS him or else he wont get into combat.

I imagine skully and the HoK will be attached to the crusher squad?
A unit of six w both a HoK and skully is a wee bit overkill, considering you have taken all the upgrades also.
You'd be better dropping skully and the HoK and taking another GD or two heralds of tzeentch on chariots.
Alternatviely you could split the squads into squads of 4 each and dropping one squad of fiends - however fiends are good. really good.
Fiends - perfect, you want these - they are great for slicing open transports, dreads - basically anything.

The PB MSU are good - however a squad of 5 letters is just stupid, its unlikely the will make into combat - you'd be better of dropping a squad of PB's and making a big squad of 15 or so letters. That will kill whatever it touches.

As for the great debate for HS.
I firmly believe they are both great. However, i think you have to take 3 of either DP's or 3 SG's.
It's up to you - SG's w phelgm are great anti horde or anti marine. 3 pie plates of doom each turn? Yes please.
However alot of armys you will face will be tooled with alot of anti tank - lascannons, meltas etc. Expect them to die - however with 3, they become a huge priority - and its unlikely they will kill 3 in the first few turns.

As for DP's - these guys can do anything. You can tool them to be shooty, assaulty and mixture of both and best of all - they cannot be killed in one shot. They can kill tanks, other MC, pretty much anything.

Lemme know what you decide to run

Hey Extrenm(54),

Nice list again, interesting focus on troops.

As for the Soulgrinder vs. Daemon Prince discussion, I've just posted this in Big Baby Jesus' thread:

As for Soulgrinders? Personaly I don't prefer them. They add to the vulnerability to chance of the Daemon army. Like any vehicle it can be rendered useless in one shot and on the other hand the opponent can score penetrating hits all game long and constantly fail on the damagechart. In games up to 1500-1750 points I can see them doing well when taking three of them. Above that point your opponent will likely have so much antitank firepower that the risk becomes too great. You know a Tzeentch Prince has to be wounded at least 4 times before it dies and statisticaly should take about 8 wounds to bring down. That makes for good, reliable resilience.

As for the rest of the list, I understand you say you don't want the list to be too top heavy. That makes for an interestingly different list with a lot of troops. However I feel - exacly like BBJ - that by adding two Heralds of Khorne, one of whitch is Skulltaker, you do overinvest in the Crusher unit. I feel they'd be more than killy enough without two Heralds. Cutting them would free up a lot of points... By boosting the Crushers to a 6 strong unit and dropping both Heralds the unit doesn't loose too much resilience or killingpower and you can add an additional threat to your list.

Minus 175 Skulltaker, Juggernaut
Minus 130 Herald, Juggernaut, Fury, Might
Plus 80 2 Bloodcrushers
Leaves: 225 points

This could be spent on 10 Flesh Hounds, giving the Fiends Might and buffing up the last Prince or on a GUO or a third Prince or whatever. To me the trade would be worthwhile.

As for the Troops, I take units of Plaguebearers because I try to get by with the absolute minimum of troops and so need them to be resilient. I do wonder if they would be the best possible answer when you take 6 troopschoices. Plaguebearers are very week in damageoutput. I could imagine replacing all the Plaguebearer squads by 5-strong Bloodletter squads or adding some Horrors. That would significantly improve the damageoutput of your list.

Like BBJ Im interested to learn how you'll fare with the list you'll take :-) Write us a battlereport on of these days if you will!
