Ok having played a few games now and i cant for the life of me find rules regarding going off the board

Is it a case of coming back on next turn or is it a case of you are gone for good?

Page 33 of the BFG Rule Book wrote: A vessel that moves off of the table edge during play for any reason counts as being disengaged
