Probably a done to death subject, but I'm new.

About an hour ago, I got back in from morrisons after popping out to buy some dettol.

About half an hour ago I popped a test marine in.

About 5 minutes ago I was rubbing the paint clean off.

MEGA IMPRESSED! - Had planned on leaving a visit to FLGS until tomorrow as no point in having the paints etc before the minis are stripped, and I imagined I'd have had to leave them overnight.

As it happens, I'm still going tomorrow, probably because I'm a lazy sod though. Well done dettol!

EDIT!

Rather than start a new thread...

Planning get get my paint on tomorrow. Iyanden dark sun, washed with Gryphonne Sepia to pull it back a bit, and then A blend of Iyanden and something warm - Haven't decided yet.

ANYWAY! - Mediums. Have gone over a few blogs and people are using matt medium or the P3 mixing medium. Are there any chains that sell this? My FLGS is a GW - so I'm thinking maybe somewhere like hobbycraft? Also - no one seems to specify how much I should be adding to the wash!

Does anyone have any knowledge?

Dont leave it overnight, as sometimesit can cause the plastic to 'bubble'. NOt really very nice on a mini, so if 5 minutes is working, doing at five minutes, do it over night and you may be looking at rather deformed mini. But one thing you should always remember, is that Dettol, like the Emperor, protects.

I've used detol to quite some success before. I've left models in for a couple of weeks with only some softening of the details on them but it does work quite fast.

Wilko's value pine disinfectant works the same and costs about a quid cheaper (and I think it's in a bigger bottle than Dettol).

I will vouch for that, also, don't use wilko spray paint. Enamel is bad for minis, and the other stuff is just bad.

Is Simple Green (sold in the USA) the same as Dettol?

Nah, Dettol is an antiseptic, you dab it on wounds when you cut and yourself and to sterilise stuff. Strong stuff, you don't want to use it un-diluted

The active ingredient of Dettol is Chloroxylenol, so anything with that in will do the job. I think Chloroxylenol might be ONLY in Dettol though, so...

As for time period - I've left plastic models in Dettol for literally months at a time without any ill effect on the plastic.
