Topic line says it all. I have heard a lot of different dates for different codecies that are supposed to be coming out this year, but being new to the 40k hobby, I don't have the experience to guess about this stuff on my own. Should I just go ahead and drop some cash on getting a Tau army going, or are we guessing that the new codex will come out soon enough to make that purchase silly?

There hasnt been any rumors on the Tau codex, so it's probably safe to start it now. Definately get the battle force, as the contents of it definately wont change even if an update comes, and it's a strong core force that any tau army would need.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Upgraded HammerHead Railguns and Markerlight changes have floated around.

Doesn't look like they'll get a new codex for a while and the rumors don't look like they'll nerf anything in the battleforce.

Railheads are supposed to get an upgrade, but I'd wait until the update, or you need some ap4 large blast templates. Use Broadsides for blowing up vehicles.

The floating around rumors for railguns on hammerheads were the same rumors that were floating around before the current codex came out. I think it's just wishlisting and people playing too many first person shooters.

There's been no indication of Tau coming up any time soon. Start em now, as they're super duper cheap on eBay and here.

I may be guilty of the markerlight thing, as it's one of the speculations that I've been talking about with people. ^^;
