I'm not sure if the organizers ever visit Dakka, but I want to help make sure this event is promoted well, so I figured I'd post a link.

Astronomi-con

Dates are starting to come out for the 2011 events. My understanding is that they will once again be holding events in Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver and Dallas. Date finalization and registration just opened for the Winnipeg event, and I'll update this thread as their other events are announced.

These guys hold really great events.

I was a little excited since Winnipeg is only 7.5 hours away. Then I kinda read the rules. I'm just not down with flyers and such in a 1,500pt tournament. Seems like it could be fun though. Definitely a neat and different event which is cool. Good luck guys!

Yeah its a little different since IA is allowed (of course no superheavies still). I find it to be very fun and forces you to play a little more non-standard. Not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but thats fine too.

I can totally see the appeal but if I've got to fly or drive over 2 hours for an event it's gotta fit me Good luck with it though. I've seen the reports from those events and heard nothing but good things!

I thought Astronomicon was in Texas? I had put it down on my list of events to attend this year, but Canada is definitely not where I thought it was...

Do you have any information about Dallas?

Not yet. Generally the events are about 1-2 months apart, so i would expect Dallas to be sometime during the summer. I'll post the date when its announced.

I just signed up. It'll be my first Astro, but I hear alot of good things. I was reading abit about the recent even in Winnipeg, and the guy who won best over al is from Windsor. I played him once or twice when I was there doing my undergrad. Nice guy.

Yeah it was a lot of fun. Some very good games, and a great display of armies to see. My understanding is that Vancouver will be in august, so it may happen that dallas comes in september. If I get any more news about the next events I'll update asap.

I am going to try and make vancouver but let me just say these guys have put on the best tournies I have ever been too.

I've gone to the Vancouver one twice. Mike and Christian put on one hell of an event. To use a phrase MVB coined -- It is not an evaluative competitive tournament because of how the tables and missions are setup, as well as all the wacky stuff they allow (not just VDR but also LatD, IA units and rules outside of super heavies, etc). It is, however a blast and extremely challenging due to how the tables and missions are setup.

They are also professional all around -- best paint judging I have ever seen, one of the most transparent events around IMO, one of the few events since 3ed that didn't use massacre style BPs and overall just great TOs. Highly recommend attending one if you can.

Just want to bump this because the date for Astronomi-con Vancouver has been announced for August 20-21, and that registration for that event will be open on May 21st.

I registered for the Toronto event, and I'm pretty excited as this is my first time going and I've heard nothing but good things about it from my gaming group.

I've signed up for the Toronto Astronomi-con. I'll be bringing my Tyranids!

I've signed up for the Vancouver event, and like metalboxes it's my first too, but everyone says it's good so I'm really excited!

Is this something you can go to and watch or do you have to play? I'd love to pound a few drinks and catch some of the games.
