I was going to convert a Venerable Dreadnought into a BA Librarian, but now GW released the new Librarian model, I bought that instead. I had always intended to paint him all blue, but the new model is shown in red with a blue sarcophagus. Why is that? Why is he not all blue? I still think a blue dread would look better in my BA army.

I would paint it all blue with a red shoulderpad (dreadnought shoulder).

Great minds must think alike. Go to the 7:08 mark and watch from there, seems you're not the only one with those thoughts - and imo it looks awesome. Of course its BTP so it's hard to know if it's them or the paint scheme, but you should definitely go for it.

I think they actually explained it on the Furioso spotlight article that they chose a primarily red color because they didnt want it looking like an ultramarine dreadnought. Here's the article: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=&pIndex=3&aId=13700019a&multiPageMode=true&start=4

Thanks. If thats the only reason, I reckon I will go mostly blue with some red and gold. I kinda want the contrast with the other models. There is almost too much red in a Blood Angels army!

Heresy! You cannot have too much red.

You could easily say that the Dreadnought chassis itself was one of legacy in the chapter, but they had a librarian they wanted to put in it so his sarcophagus denotes his position. That's how I've always thought of it, anyway.

But they repaint the DC armor so...go for it, paint him all blue! I agree with The Power Cosmic on this one.

Guys, everyone knows that psychic powers operate on the wavelengths of 467.89 nm. Blue light is in the visible spectrum of 450–475 nm. This blue armor amplifies and intensifies these psychic energies, making the psycher more powerful.

If you were to paint your librarian dreadnought red, the wavelengths in the 620–750 nm range will interfere with the psychic energies.

Don't do it! You're medling with powers you don't understand!

Red + Blue = Purple Dreadnaught

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

The 'Librarians are Blue' rule is one that has been allowed a bit of leeway these days. It's perfectly acceptable to paint your Librarians all blue, or with just certain parts blue.

On a practical note where the dreadnought is concerned... painting just the sarcophagus blue means that when the Librarian dies, the Techs only have to swap out the sarcophagus rather than repainting the whole dreadnought

My DA libs will have no blue at all (they'll also be black - so there!!).
The psychic hood will show that they are libs.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
