Now I am not sure whether this is the right spot to post or not, so here it is. What do you think is better a bike army using the vanilla marines or the dar angels codex. what do you think is the better choice??!

The vanilla codex does it better, though they each have their own advantages and disadvantages.

I'd recommend painting them in a unique scheme so you can use them as either, and see which better fits your play style.

Seconded!

Home-brew marines are always the best way to go, you never know what gak GW is going to pull with the main chapters.

Dark Angels can take Bikers and troops if you take the right HQ. So, by default, you can field more if you want to. And they work great in combination with Deathwing. Just something to consider ^^.

SM armies can also have Bikers for troops if:

1.) there is a Captain or Kor'sarro Khan on a Bike/Moondrakken respectively. and

2.) The bike squad in question numbers at least 5 models.

Vanilla SM is overall superior as you have access to alot more options and cheaper bikes (you're not forced to take a Teleport Homer on everyone, as well as a general reduction in bike costs). Kor'sarro khan, in particular, allows units to outflank, making them very dangerous. Kor'sarro Khan himself is very dangerous as well, being a general character/MC killer that can fleet with his bike, as welll as having Hit and Run.

The only reason I can see to take Ravenwing is if you want Sammael, who is an absolute beast due to his plasma cannon. His landspeeder self isnt too shabby either, provided you never get into CC.

If you want to min/max, go with Vanilla Space Marines. If you want to be true to your chapter, if indeed your army is DA, then you know what to do. ^^

Deathwing is deadly now actually. Minus the part that they dont have the Redeemer, they're just as good as Loganwing, but cheaper since they dont have weird point costs. The FnP is just icing on the cake.

Ravenwing can have scoring DS Landspeeders. and if you dont take the Flying bike you can have the floating Landrader.

far too many points and still painting...

I need to check the rulebook on this one, but I remember that vehicles cannot be scoring, no matter what.

Yeah. Page 90 states that any Swarm or Vehicle unit never counts as scoring.

Dark Angels Codex, page 27, bottom right hand box:

"Much like combat squads, the squadrons attack bike and land speeder are purchased together with the squadron and then deployed at the same time as the squads bikes, but from then on they always operate as completely independant scoring units of one model"

far too many points and still painting...

That was in 4th edition though, when any unit could count as scoring. The Core rulebook specified that Vehicles are not scoring. The ruling in the DA book would also mean that Ravenwing Landspeeders taken as Fast attack would also be scoring units, violating two parts of the rule at once.

Just played a game with 5 deepstriking Termie Squads, 3 got in on the first round thanks to Deathwing Assault. Oh, how much fun it was...

I'd want to email GW about that. However, the Speeder is a AV10 fast skimmer, not exactly built for entrenched positions (which is technically all a scoring unit is good for now). Still though, possibly good for grabbing an objective early on in the game (although a turboboosting bike squad can accompish the same thing, especially if they have Scout).

I just wish they could Turbo-boost with their scout move :( Ah well.

Lol. On one hand you got a RAW scoring vehicle. On the other you lack the turboboosting of Scouts rule (which SM Scout Bikers have).

Special Weapons really, and maybe a PW on the Sarge but that's it. Bottom line is they're still 1 wound models with marginally higher survivability than a normal MEQ.
