On a boat, Trying not to die.

Err... Yeah. The title says it all.

Actually, I had 3, all in a row. It was about a class that uses a college level textbook for Freshmen in high school, how I basically suck at everything I do, how me being alive is useless, how all my friends are better than me.

You know. The usual stuff that one has a panic attack about.

It was a strange feeling, having no control over your movements and breathing for a few minutes. You begin to feel dizzy, almost like your going to pass out.

Anyway, I was wondering what I could do to make sure this doesn't happen, in say, a classroom?

Are you sure it was a panic attack - not asthma, heroin, alcoholism or hypoglycemia?

Try to find an outlet that will relieve stress and burn off excess energy. Like running or something.

I haven't found a way to control mine, they just seem to subside if I focus on controlling my breathing and do it deeply and slowly. I haven't had one in a while though.

That is far, far easier said than done.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm 14. Half of the stuff on the list are illegal or impossible. I don't have asthma, and from what I've heard, this was nothing like a asthma attack.

I do a martial art, but because I can only do it once a week, and I'm going to have to quit soon, it's hard for me to find anything to de-stress me.

Talk to your friends and family about what stresses you out. Due to puberty (how I loathe thee), your brain, quite simply, will make mountains out of moehills. You will feel the urge to freak out about things that, when you step back and take another look, aren't that bad, and will pass. Don't worry, be happy. Let it be. Find something that helps you relieve stress.

I know how it is, and it is difficult, but it's all you really can do. I used to go into a mixed state all the time (they're like panic attacks, but they're a rush of pretty much every emotion at once coming on really strong), and making an effort to destress whenever possible worked some of the time, until I got myself properly medicated. Sadly, panic attacks are a medical condition, a chemical imbalance or a wiring problem in the brain, which is what makes keeping them at bay so difficult.

Remember, whatever is causing the attack will pass. Nothing stays bad forever.

Hi Chowderhead

Easiest thing to do is breathing exercises.
It works for me.

Practice the exercises and if you feel a panic attack coming on then start the breathing technique.
Was taught by a stress councillor that I was referred to by my GP. It does work as I can testify.

Nice joke.

Here's a cool proverb about wisdom and inner peace. Enjoy. It's really helped me ever since I first read it.

Okay, that's actually a different story, but the message is the same. I'll post my version later.

Okay chowderhead, this is an easy thing to overcome. First think of your thought processes, you are probabaly thinking
A: I am gonna die, my heart is pounding so fast i think it is gonna explode. I cant breath, the oxygen isn't getting into my lungs!
B: I am gonna pass out god!
C: S**t! I am going insane!
Okay step 2 is to rationilize it. You do this by thinking of the end of the panic attack and making it come to an end. You do this by thinking:
A: I have had one of these before; i didnt pass out and i didnt die.
then
B: This is just an over build up of cortesol in my brain chemistry, messing with my fight or flight mechanism in my lizard (primitive) part of my brain, it is just a screw up in my body chemistry nothing to worry about.
then
C: It is subsiding, i am feeling better now, i have thought rationaly about it and i am okay. Breathe in through your nose for 6 seconds hold it in for 2 and exhale forcefully through your mouth a few times.
SORTED!

Find a way to relax. If it weren't illegal I'd suggest weed. If the social anxiety continues, get medicated til you have yourself figured out.

Yes really I do. Or go for very long walks. You need to keep your mind busy or else you will falter to a panic attack again.
