I have a spare land raider chassis from my chaos army and was wondering if I could use it as a battlewagon after some conversion work. My issue is I don't have a battlewagon for size reference and was wondering if it is tournament legal to be a few inches off, Too much extra build time.

I saw LRs used as the base for BW conversions pretty regularly back before there was a BW model.

The only issue with it is that the LR has a considerably wider body than the official BW model. This gives you two advantages- a wider front armor arc (which is a big deal when we're talking about 14 vs 12 if people can get a shot at your side) and a greater radius of effect if you have a KFF inside.

Right now I mostly see players wince and deal with it when they see old models built before the BW was available as a model, accepting it as a grandfathered model even if they're bummed about the advantages it gives the Ork player. But doing a whole new one would kind of smack of Modeling For Advantage. Hrm.

True, but Im not paying 45+ for a new figure. If I ever win a tournament Id consider the actual figure.

Well, if you really want to do it, I'd recommend cutting an inch or so out of the middle section between the treads, and adding a crew/passenger platform to the top. This will make the width close to the BW width, and make clear that it's open-topped. Of course, you could also just cut the whole roof off, which makes narrowing it easier.

My brother uses one in his Ork army and I don't think anyone has ever complained.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the FW battlewagon is landraider sized. I believe it is only available from FW as the battle fortress now, but the base model sets a precedent

Beautiful conversions, they really convey the feeling of orks salvaging and slapping something together. VERY orky

Thanks mate. I probably could do them better like add some wires to hold the fins down on the blue one; meant to be some kind of spoiler or something so the Orks can go faster Not sure if you noticed but in the blue on the Leman Russ sponson a Grot is hiding.
