Anyone know how many sets of Boneswords come in Tyranid Warrior boxes? I would expect two pairs, since the whole brood has to take them if they're doubled, but you can have a HW choice in there as well which would negate the need for tossing three pairs in every box. Problem is, my expectation hasn't been met with much confirmation after a while of googling.. and I'd like to have more double boneswords on my Warriors!

Nice. So GW offers boneswords in the codex, but does not offer them in a box that uses them... not surprised. Welp, off to ebay I go, then!

Well, their models from 2nd edition had boneswords, back in like 1995. Then their current models came out in late 3rd, and boneswords weren't an option. They still weren't in 4th, but they brought them back for the 5th and current edition. A few secondhand companies make them.

Here's some from Secret Weapon:

The secret weapon ones are just plain crappy... worst design ever.

These are better, but still not the best choice. Dunno if you can buy them anywhere else though.

1.) Not all options in the new Codex have models yet. This includes the bone swords. The third edition Warrior box doesn't include bone swords, because they weren't legal at that time.
2.) One rumour poster claims that Tyranids get a second wave in autumn including bone sword bitz.
3.) 2nd edition plastic Warriors came with two boneswords each and you can still find them on ebay. You can use these or just their arms. The current Hive Tyrant also comes with one bonesword, but sells for quite a lot currently on ebay.
4.) There are at least 5 non-GW bone swords out there, e.g. by Chapterhouse Studio, Secret Weapon Miniatures, Maxmini, Paulson Games and Velard, chose your style.
5.) They are also easily scratchbuild with plasticard and some greenstuff or using talons upside down.

If you lose the hate for a second and think logcally, you might realize that the Warrior box is from 3rd edition, when Tyranids didn't have Boneswords. GW aren't screwing you over, they just didn't include illegal options in the box at the time of its design. Not everyone gets the Space Marine treatment, you know.

No hate, just started... please don't assume everyone's been playing since the early 80s!

The previous codex did not have an option to put BSs on warriors. There's a couple random 'barb' things in the warrior kit that have no purpose anymore, along with a set of outrageously large scything talons
Ideally, GW would make a bits kit that gives you 3 sets of Boneswords and three lash whips. But it's doubtful

The Tyranid codex is horrendously lacking alot of things, not to mention we only got a few new sets and none of the existing sets got updated (the Warrior Box is from 3rd ed).

I used the Chapterhouse ones for my Tyranid Prime (left), not the usual sword-in-hand style so not everyone's taste. On the right the 2nd edition plastic/metal warrior with two bone swords.

To be fair, the 'outrageously large scything talons' are on the sprue with the venom cannon, barbed strangler and rending claws. It's not like they could leave those off for the warrior box.

They were never meant for the Warriors in the first place, The sprue is called the Monstrous Arm because it use to be the weapon options for the Tyrant and Fex (when both were metal and the Tyrant looked like a uber warrior) The Warriors were cross-compatable so they didnt have to make a whole different sprue just for them.
