I was thinking of running a close combat oriented webway army for general play at my local game club. They don't really like special characters there so I was thinking of leading off with an archon and a couple haemonculi while the rest of the army was mostly made of of wyches, beastmasters, incubi and a couple talos pain engines backed up by a chronos. My list is still in the works but i was looking for some general advice on the webway portal. Is one sufficent or would more than one be a better bet for more access points to the battlefield? Where should I deploy them and who should i give the portals to? would 2 haemonculi AND a chonos be redundant in a 2000 pt game?

Good candidates for the WWP:

Grotesques with hameonculy, both as a large or group or in a raider.

Wracks in large group with haememuncoly, both in large group, raider or venom (esier to hide, you want that WWB faaaar out.)

A bit weak: warriors with haemoncaly in a raider.

and last but not least the archon with the harlequens. also you can consider the archin with grotesques is also quite nasty.

Get scourges with blasters and talos with hayvire blaster. perhaps a chrono paracite angine. And have a plan.

The only way I would ever run only 1 is with an archon in a shsadiwfield with a shadowseer.

I've been running 2 WWPs on two Haemonculi, and usually attach one to a squad of harlies with Shadowseer, and hide the other behind terrain elsewhere on the board. If there are no good hiding places, I attach them both to the harlies and stretch the unit out to wide coherency to get a good dispersal on the portals. It works pretty well.
