It depends on what type of build you are going for exactly. Mine is bubble-happy and uses numbers to simply cover the board, forcing the opponent into my lines whether he wants to or not. As such, I include Venomthropes, Tervigons (Countattack, FC, and Poison on Termagaunt groups nearby), Hive Tyrant with Guards (to give Preferred Enemy to everyone close), and a Trygon (as well as Hive Guard and Warriors).
This gives me a cohesive force that, at its center, has a 5+ (or better) cover save, Preferred Enemy, Counter Attack, Poison, and can deal out some damage/a lot of pinning as they move forward. There isn't really any great option for what to fire at, as usually one Terivgon and the Trygon has FNP (and I alternate between Tervigons if they shoot at the other one) and the Tyrant is very difficult to kill with this Guard. The Venomthropes are a good target but are usually hard to see and will have a 4+ cover anyway. I have some S5/6 shooting sprinkled in to help the Hive Guard slow down vehicles. The idea isn't really to destroy anything, it's to move forward show the opponent who's in control.
Stay away from the Hive Tyrant with wings. Unless your going with a lot of Spores, there's no benefit in giving him extra mobility/less survivability. He's a force multiplier. Paroxysm those TH/SS and then send your 10-man Termagaunt unit into them and laugh.
