A thought just recently came to mind skimming through the CSM codex:What if the chapters that turned to Chaos, like the Thousand Sons and Emperor's Children, stayed loyal to the Imperium in the Horus Heresy while the loyalists, like the Blood Angels and Space Wolves, turned to Chaos instead? What would have happened differently? What would be the divergence point? Would any of the "Chaos" Primarchs survive, and "loyalist" ones for that matter?

Gathering the Informations.

This again?

It crops up every few weeks and it always ends badly.

Basically:
It would have turned out the same.
Why?

Because it would had to have so it could be the 'Inverted Horus Heresy'.

Otherwise, it wouldn't have been the Horus Heresy.

You should read the "Dornian Heresy" then. A lovely piece of fan-work by a very dedicated group. As you can tell by the name, Horus casts off the influence of Chaos, so the gods turn to Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists. Essentially those that were Loyalist become the traitor legions, and those that were traitor legions become the Loyalist Legions.

I highly recommend giving it a read. You can find it easily over on the Bolter and Chainsword.

It's being run by people with short term vision and enough greed to extinguish a sun.

Perhaps they're the C'tan.

I like the overall detail level of the Dornian Heresy, but a lot of it seems forced. I mean, it's not just a single departure point like Horus refusing the Chaos Gods, it's total rewrite of a lot of the important characters.
