Master Rune of Steel: All attacks against the bearer of this rune with a Strength greater than 5 are resolved at Strength 5.

So my dwarf lord, using this rune, was shot with a cannon and couldn't look out due to a metric asston of repeater crossbowmen having killed an awful lot of his halberdiers (team tourney). The hit was resolved at strength 5. Question is, can he use his armor save? I can't find anywhere where it says "no armor saves allowed" under a cannon, the assumption being, I assume, that at s10 a cannonball will always negate any possible armor save. However, this particular dwarf lord with this particular rune combo has a 3+ rerollable armor save against such a hit, if he's allowed to use it. Can anybody provide a rule reference to the effect that cannonballs never ever allow any armor saves (as asserted by my opponent, a very notable warhammer player in my area)?

You get the AS, it is just that cannons usually negate all armor

Cannons don't negate armor saves. As pwnage said, the cannon just hits at such a high strength that it would usually modify any armor save someone/something might have to nothing.

As above

in 7th they explicitly didnt allow armour saves; mainly because you could get -lots saves on certain characters. In 8th it allows "normal" saves, so in this case only -2 not -7
