Hey everyone. I was thinking of making a custom marine chapter that looks similar to the roman legions. I know the ultra marines have some models that look like this. The thing is that I want to do my whole army this way but I have not been able to find good subsitute models that I can use for this project. For example: I would love to have all of their helmets like the Honour Guard for Calgar.

Anyone have any ideas or tips?

If you're good at sculpting with GS and have the posibility of making resine clones, try to make MK1 pauldrins and MK2 legs.

They'll give a loriga segmentata feeling. You can try to fetch a Sicarius' helmet and try to imitate/duplicate the horse mane adorn on it. If you're comfortable, with either GS or very thin plasticard you can add groin guards.

Now, for TDA, the pre heresy design alone works on your theme:

They allready have in their design logira segmentata's like pauldrons, come with leather groin guards and something similar hanguing from their shoulders.

Now, for more general things, aStorm Shields can be easily replaced by home a made Scutum (this one is the large and rectangular one) or a Clipeus (slightly smaller and oval shaped, but for most people that doesn't says "roman").

Shortening Power Swords may make nice Gladii, and Pilums can be a good CCW for troops, instead of Chain Sowrds.

Just some ideas.

Another important element, I had an idea for a Roman Army. The Imperial Consuls, I had all the fluff done and names etc. I might copy and send via PM, instead I changed direction and went for my North American Indian theme. If i could do it again, I would probably choose Asiatic or Samurai. Could you Imagine the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" in 40K? The Warrior "Lu Bu" in terminator armour would make Horus look like a child...

Back to thread, Romans would be cool and remember the AQUILIFA (Standard bearer) he usually had a wolf pelt over his shoulders and head and rather than a Banner have an EAGLE. I called my scouts "Auxillia" my Captains Centurions, (except the CO of the 9th Bikers he was Decurion) Captain of the 1st "Primus Pilus". "Evocati" were veterans who had finished their time in the legions but stayed for double pay etc (So they were dreadnoughts in my head). Sergeants were Optio's and obviously the 1st Company were Praetorians, Tesseraius is an honour guard (great name!) . Tribune is your Chapter master, etc.

Do a little research and your army will come alive in your head, and from this you will have it in your minds eye and it will help motivate you to make it real... It will be, no doubt be an excellent army.

Mostly, on my phone.

Nice idea, like it. BTW, Urban Mammoth have a half price sale on metropolis box sets just now, which would be a reasonably cost-effective way of getting Gladiator/Junker stuff. More generally, all the Junker fluff is Roman, so there's lots of romanesque details in the models. In particular, the plastic shields from the old Void Junkers (or Viridians, come to think of it) would work well. There's quite a few folk who've done IG armies using Void/UM bits, have a hunt on the P&M blogs and maybe even pm folk and beg bits? A generous place this, I find.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

I have one bit of possitive criticism to that mini: it needs in the alba line of the armour a ser a brass joints, without a great deal of details, but originally a loriga segmentana had a set on the front and back, so the lames where ties with leather straps.

And honestly, I don't think that is beyond the modeller's capacities, for that's an astounding miniature.

Best show ever!!! I was reading the other day that the Spartacus character had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (think I got the spelling right) which is why they had to make a short prequel series whilst he got treatment. The poor bastard got it back when he started training and had to pull out of the series. They have cast a new guy to play the role.

Bad news .. well, probably good in a way. I wont have to hear my girlfriend say "He's so hot" for 1 hour each week.

Final episode tonight (in US).

Great show though!

I think the prequel series will help us all forget what he looked like. the guy they cast looks similar to him but isn't a clone copy. Enough of the cast carried over the shows 2nd season is still going to be amazing.

Gave me a little more insight and respect into the Crixus character.

Poor orks... Why can't they be the good guys for once?
All they've ever really wanted is whatever you have...
