Hi dakka! First time posting here and new member but not new to 40k. My friends and I got into the hobby about a year ago. One big thing to note is that my friend and I are very competitive and love to play that way. Not saying we don't like to have fun but we also like to build strong lists and use smart and effective strategies!

A problem we have ran into is after we learned the rules and drilled them into our heads, practiced enough with our armies to learn how to play them effective and efficiently, and learned great strategies and how to build good all comers (we don't tailor our lists ever) we have been constantly winning vs everyone at our LFGS. This has been going on for about 3 months now and winning is great but its not everything. The games have been slowly getting less and less fun because of this.

It's not their fault and we try to help and give advice but most of the players are more casual players. We don't want to change our army lists and make them more "casual" and we don't want to stop using smart strategies just to make it more challenging. That's not the right way to go about our problem imho.

We are looking for other FLGS with more players to play against and also local or nearby tournaments to enter since the environment will be more competitive.

How do you go about looking for other place to play? (we have only ever known this one place we go to) Is there a central place to go find tournaments like how Magic the Gathering has sites for official tournaments? We have never looked for tournaments before and would love advice on how to start. Anyone gone through this problem has any advice on how to deal with it without weakening your lists or playing less effectively? We still love playing and would like to keep the times we play challenging and fun.

Thanks ahead!

I recommend switching up the stores you go to. Show up on their open play days, meet new people, issue entirely new smack downs. Generally, in any large enough area there's two stores or groups that play wargames. Check online for local or nearby (30 mile) game stores, and pay them a visit. Check out the store for open game days, and bring along a small list just in case there's someone willing to play.

dakka dakka has a store finder tab (its at the top of the page).

There is also the "find a game" section, as well as the "tournament discussions" section. Both of those could be helpful.

There are plenty of resources here, so use them. Happy hunting!
