I find video games to be a great resource when it comes to finding inspiration on my models and background, for instance Raxus Prime from Star Wars The Force Unleashed inspired the background for one of my old Ork armies. Awhile back I got a friend of mine into the game and he based his marines off of the Cogs from GoW. So what games have inspired your armies?

Command and Conquer, as well as Warcraft 3 and Starcraft. Namely I wanted to build a Brotherhood of Nod army utilizing conscripts as militia, while Stormtroopers represented the elite Black Hand. Wasn't going to use tanks though, because nothing in the guard army fit the profile of Nod tanks, which were lightly armoured, weak in fire power, but extremely agile and cheap. Couldnt do it because it would have required extensive conversions (since none of the guardsmen looked like nod units) which I wasnt capable of. Warcraft obviously was for the Orcs I had. I even painted a unit of Arrar Boyz red. Starcraft was for nids. I intended to make a Ultralisk as a carnifex-count-as (not buy an ultralisk model, but make one out of two fex kits).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The video game of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. The humans in that game use tanks and artillery as their primary units, and it influenced my army composition.

I chose Orks because it fit the play style of about every RTS I've ever played. Build, and horde your army into one massive force, then go rompa-stomp the entire map.

I'm not sure if it really counts but the DoW series is what got me into 40k in the first place.

Company of Heroes influenced my guard in a big way, as they now look like german panzer grenadiers. The army itself is mechanized infantry supported by heavy tanks, all in black grey and brown.

I like your style, man. I painted up a squad of non- 40k power armor dudes in NC colors a long time ago. I was always a TR guy, but I had a good buddy playing NC. Even named them after his outfit!
Dawn of War really got me into the game, and I'd say my interest in playing Guard started there. I don't think much in the way of fluff or paintschemes has come direct from any videogames though.

I suppose, for me, you could say COD for IG.
Screaming, shooting and rarely hitting. Not doing noticable damage when a hit IS made. Running at the first sign of danger. Dying as a result of that.
I'd make a good Cadian...

Fallout. My marine army has transfers on their shoulder pads of the BoS logo, and I scratch built a razorback from plasticard and a Hummer model to look like the one in FO: Tactics. I built it in 4e, where I had lots of apothecaries weilding "Stimpacks."

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Dawn of War doesn't really count, it already is 40k.
In the World Eaters army I'm planning, my Chosen in power armour are going to have axes attached to their wrists with chain, ala Kratos in God of War.
I'm still trying to figure out how to have them whirling around them. Thinking thin wire along the chain so I can pose it.

Dawn of War. I started playing computer games because of Relic's 'Homeworld' game. I had seen Warhammer stuff in the local comics shop but mostly thought the tanks were ugly, and it was full of bald screaming guys with festering eye implants. Ugh, whatever. Much later, I learned that the company that had made one of my favorite games had also made an RTS based on Warhammer, and I gave that a chance; it won me over. So Relic's game design had a huge influence. It is why I will always acknowledge that Orks are awesome, why my Codex Marines are Blood Ravens, and why my Chaos Lord eschews METAL BOXES.
Other influential games: From an attitude standpoint, the (very) old Marathon trilogy. It was gory. It deals with things like being more than human, facing hopeless odds where the only victories are Pyrrhic, and unknowable alien secrets hold the key to survival. The player character doesn't understand his own history even though it is central to his role in the game; the bulk of humanity in the 41st millennium is in a similar position.
Halo just because of the Gravity Hammer; I have a converted thunder hammer that borrows from the design. Pelicans were so cool, they made the Stormraven hard to resist. Additionally, things the Prophets said in-game have ended up being re-attributed to a certain Blood Angels Reclusiarch...
Unreal Championship, because it has a similar "our technology might as well be freakin' magic, yet everything is grimy and life is cheap" vibe.
Finally, Ninja Gaiden Black, because it has some awesomely trippy demons and there are levels that give a pretty good sense of what a Daemon world would be like.

I painted my Space marines up as 501st legion stormtroopers because I am one ( a real-gone, stormtrooper costume wearing star wars geek), not because I saw them in a vidjagame-thingummyjigger.

And I guess by Halo, with my Tau force.

My Blood Angel army is getting a bit of an assassins creed treatment-
My Mephiston counts as- Ezio in The Armor of Brutus with Apple and Sword of Eden
Plasma pistol Sgt. in regular 'assassin' colors.
My Death Company are loosely themed off the Physicians, with their black armor and crow helmets with bone colored facemasks (they are WIP so no pictures yet)
