Playing a game tonight and i bought a a land raider dedicated transport for a squad of 5 marines, will it be possible for mephiston to ride in the land raider along with the marines or will they marines have to let him have it? And can i do that? Declare at the start of the game that mephiston is riding in it instead of the marine squad i bought it for?

Cheers

You will need to disembark the marines for him to ride with them, he is a unit of one model and bringing him along constitutes having two embarked in a single vehicle.

Since it is a dedicated transport, you need to embark him turn 1, he cannot start in the vehicle.

Mephiston is not an Independent Character, so can never join a squad.

A given transport can only hold one unit (well, the Storm Raven can hold an Infantry or Jump Infantry unit AND a Dread), so there is no way Mephiston can be on board a transport at the same time as another unit (except a Dread on a SR).

Mephiston is an Infantry model, so he can ride in any of the Blood Angels transports by himself.

Per the rules for Dedicated Transports, only the squad the DT is bought for can start the game deployed in it, along with any attacked ICs. A different unit could embark in an empty DT during the game, though.

Yup, as said:

1. Transports can only transport one unit.
2. Mephiston is not an Independent Character, and cannot join a unit.
3. Hence: Only the squad or Mephiston can be in the tank, not both.

Also, as the Land Raider is a dedicated transport for the squad, Mephiston cannot start the game in the Land Raider, but the squad can. The only restriction for dedicated transports is that only the squad that it was bought for can start the game inside. Simple fix, start the squad outside of the Land Raider, and stand Mephiston next to an access point. On the first turn, embark Mephiston and drive off as normal.

What about deep striking it? Can he remain in reserve and come down when it deep strikes?

Cheers for the help.

Afraid not. For a unit to deep strike in the land raider, he'd have to start the game in it, and can't because it's a dedicated transport that isn't his. And as BAs can't take LRs as heavy support choices either, I don't think there's a way around that.

Clears everything up for me, Thanks

There is no possible way for mephiston to start in a transport. If he is in reserve he must also walk on (can't use jump-infantry power) as he is not able to cast psychic powers in reserves.

He can start in any non-dedicated transport. Stormravens, in the Blood Angel's case.

i would rather put him in a Raven than a LR myself I think. Even better would be to hide him behind the Land Raider or terrain so he can take some 4+ cover saves/remain out of LoS. Putting him in an expensive transport just makes that transport more a fire magnet.
