Although Dettol is pretty hefty stuff, overnight may be too long, I would leave it for about 4 hours

Awesome. I heard Dettol worked wonders and tried it myself - but to no great effect (maybe I tried the wrong one or the European version is of a different composition?) anyway I recommend Fairy Power Spray. Just spray it on and wait 1/2 - 2 hours, either that or just empty the contents in a tin and let them soak a while, you may need to repeat the process if the paint is really thick. I've found that arms and things can be tricky to strip, escpecially if they fall off. As for seperating components, you'll find out a lot just by stripping them back, if they fall apart then job done! With old models it depends on the glue used way back, although I've found that the glue tends to be quite brittle. Hope this helps and good luck

Plastics or metals?
Plastic glue (on plastics) should still hold together fine (type of bond it creates is permanent.) even after 20 years. Knife and steady hand.
Superglue (either plastics or metals): Probably weak and will fall apart given half a chance and a couple of hours in the freezer. It's not a permanent glue by any stretch of the imagination.

In the US "Simple Green", in the UK "Super Clean".
Use a disposable plastic container, immerse the models, let sit overnight.
Clean with a toothbrush and some toothpicks.
