In the following pages expect to read the firsthand account of how an entire force of space wolves miserably failed at the game of Warhammer
40k. If this puts you at unease then avert your eyes from this report. Conversely if this puts a smile on your face, as it does on mine, then read on.
My Vanilla
SM's "Glorious Knights of the Quickly and Inefficiently Assembled Hodgepodge of Warriors Guild Chapter" (Mix of Ultramarines, Black Templars, and the ubiquitous Grey Marines AKA The Unpainted)
Now here's where my army list was supposed to go but for some reason I am drawn to the name
The Unpainted... it's very menacing sounding. It would be the perfect name for a Chaos Marines chapter.
AM I RIGHT?!

Alright brief terrain description. I kept all the terrain exactly balanced so as not to favor one player (we're both new players so this may seem lame but it's easier this way at first, but this will change soon once we get a feel for things)
Standard 4x6ft table. There was one straight road running down the length of the table in the middle of the map, and then there was a ditch running through the middle of the map width-wise. The road and ditch met in the center of the table where their was a bridge traversing the ditch. In either corner of the table there was a fairly large 1 story building with
AV of 12 and plenty of firing points as well as roof access (kind of our command post). Across the road from these buildings in the other corner was a small pillbox with a 5 man firing slit facing down the road,
AV of 14, and considered
DT to assault (representing the fact the bunker was surrounded by spikes and razor wire). In the middle of the table on either side of the drainage ditch up against the tables edge was a generator and a communication array for objective purposes, they were
IT but were surrounded by walls to take cover behind. Besides this there was just a healthy scattering of low walls, a few patches of trees, and some different sized craters all with a
CS 4+ (except for some small shallow craters which were
CS 5+ and a few hedge rows and flimsy fences which were also
CS 5+)
The mission type was seize ground and the deployment was spearhead. We decided not to roll for the number of objectives and instead just to be fair settled on 4. An objective was placed on each of our rearward command posts and then one was placed on the generator and the comms array. I won the roll to go first and picked my edge and quarter (spearhead) of the table. And so the battle began...
DEPLOYMENT
I deployed my full force with no reserves. librarian deployed w/ and attached to the termies (remained that way for the whole game) They were put in the center of the road. I Combat squad-ed (haha not a word) both of my
Tac's and deployed the forward squads (
PG guy and sarge) in the rhinos one on the left one on the right of my zone. 1 rear squad (
ML) was deployed close to my
CP (command post) and the other was deployed close to the pillbox across the road. Predator took up a position in the middle of the road a few inches from the table edge. Dreadnought was placed on the right side of my zone in front of the
CP near one of the Rhinos.
ENEMY DEPLOYMENT
I'm don't entirely remember what he did. He deployed his
GH's in the Rhinos and scattered the rest of his men around his zone in a willy-nilly fashion (a sign of things to come)
1ST TURN
My long range squad entered the
CP building and took the objective, and my other long range squad move across the road into the pillbox. The left side rhino shot across the road toward the generator objective and the squad disembarked to cover behind it. The librarian and termies gated into position slightly behind the generator. The dreadnought moved up into a crater and the rhino jumped past it and the men inside disembarked near a wall.
On the shooting phase the guys near the wall ran and took cover behind it right across the ditch from the comms array. The dreadnought fired and immobilized an enemy rhino, and the predator fired and stunned the enemy dreadnought.
On the enemy movement phase there was a general advance on the left side of the table (rhino, dread, and pred) towards the generator objective on my side of the ditch. My opponent also took his
CP building with his Longfangs without realizing they're not a scoring unit. He popped smoke with his immobilized rhino after failing his repair check. Since he moved basically all his units no one actually fired at me that turn
2ND TURN
My rhino near the generator moved up towards it and the marines stayed behind it all the way up to the walls around the generator, and they were close enough to capture the point. The Terminators moved up behind the walls at the rear of the building. The marines behind the wall moved into the ditch and were now only several inches away from moving into the comms array objective. Either my
ML squad or Pred exploded the enemy dreadnought, my dread attempted to hit but only achieved a weapon destroyed result on the smoke obscured rhino, removing the storm bolter on the already immobilized vehicle.
My enemy demoralized by the loss of the dreadnought hesitantly pushed forward into my kill zone. A rhino full of
GH's and his
RP (Rune Priest, I thought the abbrv. would work but it didn't, and i'm not gonna bother changing it, sorry) were getting dangerously close to the generator and his men disembarked behind a nearby wall. However, he had neglected to push towards the uncontested comms array on the other side of the map. His other squad of
GH's were still playing patty cake in the immobilized Rhino and having a grand time. With his dreadnought destroyed his predator attempted get revenge on it's enemy brother but failed in that task. His longfangs did manage to repay the damage I had wrought by wrecking my dreadnought.
3RD TURN
The men in the ditch by the comms array were able to clamor out of it and move into the walls around the objective marker gaining me a total of 3 of 4 objectives. However the squad on the rear
CP immediately began moving forward to consolidate the newly captured array and allow the
PG squad to advance. The rhino that was sheltering the men near the generator had provided a slight crack between itself and the wall for the single marine w/ the plasma gun to fire out of. He fired into the enemy squad killing 1
GH. My Predator was able to finally accomplish the task of destroying it's evil twin across the ditch and my
ML squad also fired a frag into the freshly revealed
GH's and inflicted 2 casualties.
The squad of
GH's with the
RP were forced to move into coherence and were unable to fire at the marine with the plasma gun because of there new position. Instead they decided to try to charge across the ditch but only made it partway there leaving themselves in the open. The
LF's attempted to shoot my predator but were fortunately out of range. His
RP tried to use a psychic attack which was nullified by my Librarian who was still waiting to strike in the cover of the generator walls.
4TH TURN
My men in the comms array moved into a more suitable position and their long range complement moved towards them to take control of the comms array so they could advance. The men behind the rhino at the generator finally moved into cover behind the walls and the Rhino boldly attempted a tank shock on the rune priest and grey hunters across the ditch. The tank shock failed as a marine attempted death or glory and successfully immobilized the rhino. However it accomplished it's goal of scattering the enemy troops. The librarian and terminators gated across the field into the midst of the smoldering enemy vehicles. With the enemy soldiers blocked by the Rhino my predator fired on the enemy rhino which had just been sitting behind the enemy troops taking up space. The rhino was successfully wrecked. The terminators also ran into cover behind the wrecked predator.
The scattered
GH and
RP moved forward into the ditch across from the generator and successfully inflicted my first infantry casualty w/ against 1 man behind the generator walls however the
RP psychic attack was nullified once again. The enemy longfangs fired at the terminators who successfully absorbed all damage
5th TURN
The terminators surrounded the patty cake playing
GH inside the immobilized rhino in preparation for an assault. The
PG squad on the comms array moved off the objective toward the immobilized rhino and the nearby
LF in the enemy
CP. The men from my
CP also moved into the ditch near the comms array to retake the position as soon as possible. My predator and two combat squads ripped apart the
GH in the ditch near the generator and only left 2 men and the
RP still standing. At that point my
SS/
TH termies assaulted the stricken rhino and easily ripped it apart. The men inside didn't all have room to be placed 1" from my termies within the footprint of the exploded rhino so were forced to take 6 casualties because of this! they also failed there pinning test.
My enemy fired his
LF at my
ML squad which took 2 casualties. His
RP and
GH in the ditch managed to inflict a 2nd casualty on my squad of 5 at the generator and advanced into assault position in the next turn/
6TH TURN
Instead of assaulting the pathetic remains of the
GH squad from the rhino my Termies moved to assault his
CP building with the vulnerable
LF inside. The
ML squad was able to make it onto the comms array objective and take it. My squad in the generator as well as the
ML squad in the pillbox and my Predator all fired at the 2
GH and
RP and killed the remaining
GH but failing to wound the
RP. My squad with the
PG decided to mop up the 4
GH from the rhino and killed all but 1. The Termies charged the
CP building and easily destroyed it but the
LF managed to hop out a window on the opposite side of the building.
My opponents lonely
RP charged the 3 men at the generator and killed two marines outright, leaving just the sarge. The sarge used combat tactics to auto fail his morale and ran into the open to expose the
RP to fire. With his
LF cornered behind the destroyed building all the could do was cower in fear for what was to come. The lone marine from the sad rhino tale, in an act of desperation, moved up and killed 1 man out of my
PG combat squad with his own
PG
7TH TURN- The Finale!!!
The greatest failure of the game in my eyes was my inability to kill the
RP. He was fired upon by a predator, a combat squad, the sarge, and a rhino (totaling up to 2
AC, 2
LC,6 Bolters, 1
ML) and somehow he survived every. single. shot.

However, the
PG squad and
ML squad on the comms array all fired on the lone
PG GH and tore him to shreds in a multitude of different ways. The Termies moved around the building and locked in
CC with the
LF. The
LF didn't stand a chance and after inflicting 1 easily saved wound and taking 1 casualty from the Librarian the wrath of 5
TH's were unleashed upon them and tore them apart in a shred of furry wolf gore!
In his final act of defiance the lone
RP charged the fleeing Sergeant and with the super human effort of surviving a barrage of fire, managed to wade through it and cut down the lone marine.
At this moment I like to think of my 20 marines, 5 Terminators, and a tank surrounding the rune priest. A battle scarred librarian walks out of the fog into the midst of his men and looks at the lone Rune Priest with a look of disdain on his face. His men look to him as he gives a slight nod with a small smile curling the corner of his lip. As the screen fades out to black the sound of many bolters cut's through the eerie silence of the now still battlefield, but over it all you can here a single piercing scream... The End.
That's my personal version of how the game actually ended. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside
Alright quick recap.
Objectives controlled: Me- 2 Opponent- 0
Kill Points: Me- 5 Opponent- 2
Actual Casualties: Me- 8+1 vehicle, Opponent- 26+4 vehicles
Overall I think that qualifies as a crushing and humiliation defeat for the fabled
SW. The sad part is I know I could have avoid some casualties and ended the game with more objectives, but since I knew I had certain victory by turn 4 or maybe 5 I felt like it was fine to have some fun ripping my friends guys apart.
So anyway what do you guys think. This is my first time writing a battle report so I hope it wasn't too long or had too much or too little detail or wasn't formatted right or was boring. If there was something wrong with it please feel free to levy any criticism or complaint you feel is necessary so I can learn a thing or two. Thanks for looking it over!
