I'm using the guide below as a guide to painting my valk/vendetta and I was wondering about almost half way down the page how the weathering effect is done. Link to guide is at the bottom and the step I am talking about is the one I have in the image below.

He uses oil paints for it and I don't quite understand his instructions with the blister thing he's doing...I would like to also use acrylic paints; either GW or Vallejo. Does anyone know a simple easy way to achieve the effect in the picture below? I'd really appreciate it! I'll even give you a cookie or two

The chipping effect is done w/ a piece of foam from a blister pack. Just tear it and tap lightly w/ Chardon Granite over your base coat. Think of sponge painting a wall but only hit the corner/edges where this type of chip is likely to occur.

The streaks..you won't get those effects with acrylics (at least not easily). Oils have a very long work time and can be rewet with turpenoid (thinner) and pushed/pulled even more after drying until they are sealed.

Oil paints are actually a pretty good value You can pick up a small tube of lamp black and burnt umber (at Micheals) and a pint of turpenoid at a hardware recreate a lot of the effects you see for ~$10 USD.

Remember to seal over any lacquer or enameled areas with a water based sealer before the oils. A lot of modelers use Future floor wax sprayed through an airbrush but you can brush on a gloss/clear too.

The streaking effects can also be achieved using GW washes. You might not be able to perfectly duplicate the effects of oil, but you can get close - especially if you are just starting out.

Pick your wash. Cut with 50% water. Brush on. It should give you a very faint color when dry. Apply again and again until you get the effect your looking for. Mud will probably be the best wash to work with, but a few layers of flesh wash or sepia mixed in will add a little character to the final results.
